We like to think of ourselves as active, but we found a new challenge in Bikram yoga. We've always wanted to do Bikram, which consists of 26 postures performed in a room heated to 105 degrees, with 40% humidity. So, when we saw the Groupon deal for 25 sessions in Costa Mesa for just $25, we were sold. We thought we were tough enough right up until we stepped into Bikram's Yoga College of India at The Camp. Let's just say we're dripping with results, but we've dried off enough to share the experience with readers.

Relax — close your eyelids and rid your mind of all your worries, fears and insecurities; letting your breathing ebb and flow like the pull of the tide. Next, slowly exhale, feeling all of the nagging concerns of the workweek leaving your body. Inflate your lungs with a sense of self-assurance and tranquillity, letting your muscles succumb to a complete state of relaxation. Now, open your eyes, spread your legs, and make sure you twist your hip on the follow through — otherwise, your ball is heading straight for that sand trap.

Matt Komer doesn't hesitate when he talks about his wife, Jaime. He jumps at the question, asking about her style when it comes to working as a yoga instructor. "She is very inviting to all levels," Komer says of his wife. "She can work with young girls and older athletes. She is very patient when teaching newcomers. She's open to adjusting each person and talking them through a certain pose … with the background she has it can be intimidating but once they get in the class she is very welcoming.

Young Chang You know that nice, cool feeling you get walking into a gym? That crisp, almost chilly air that envelops you both before and after you sweat? Forget that. With hot yoga, it's all about heat. Enter a room blasting out about 90 to 100 degrees Fahrenheit of stuffy, hot air and simmer in it. Stretch and do yoga for more than an hour and sweat like it's summer in a class of about a dozen others also raining perspiration. That's right -- a class.

Lolita Harper If you can't take the heat, get out of the holistic yoga studio. Bikram yoga, a demanding series of 26 postures and two breathing exercises, is a fitness trend sweeping the nation, and more locally, Newport-Mesa. The grand opening of Bikram Yoga at the Camp in Costa Mesa adds yet another yoga option to the traditionally health-conscious region. Unlike pavement pounding, unrelenting, aerobics classes or competitive sports, Bikram yoga challenges the person to complete a deep, strengthening workout void of bass-pumping music or encouraging cheers.
