Greer Wylder Fleming's Prime Steakhouse and Wine Bar just announced the 2004 "Fleming's 100," its renowned top 100 wines-by-the-glass list. Notable wines on the list include Cakebread Cellars 2003 Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc, Honig 2000 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, Murrieta's Well 2001 Livermore Valley Meritage, Swanson 2000 Napa Valley Merlot and Wattle Creek 2002 Alexander Valley Chardonnay. In addition, 25 bottles have been added to their reserve list.

Greer Wylder Paul Fleming has a Midas touch at developing prosperous restaurants. He's contributed to Ruth's Chris Steakhouse, Z'Tejas Grill and one of the '90s most successful dining concepts, P.F. Chang's China Bistro (initials stand for Paul Fleming). Fleming's Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar in Newport is Paul's flagship restaurant. It opened in 1998 and has been flourishing ever since. It was the first of what are now numerous nationally recognized Fleming's locations.

Lolita Harper The nightclub named after sin city is finding that the devil is in the details. Club Vegas, the upscale dance club that was expected by most to be shot down at the gates, but won a surprising approval from the Planning Commission in November, is having trouble getting specific building plans approved by city staffers, who have historically been against the project. Recent meetings between nightclub owner James Raven and Costa Mesa Fire Marshal Tom MacDuff have hit a stalemate, Planning Commissioner Bill Perkins said.

Fleming's Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar in Newport Beach will host a wine dinner 6:30 p.m. Feb. 15 featuring menu items paired with specific wines. Steve Holmes, a wine expert and representative for Clos du Bois, will lead the dinner as he explains the art of pairing wines with food during the five-course, prix-fixe meal. The first course, a selection of cheese hors d'ouevres, will be served with a 2000 Sauvignon Blanc. A butternut squash soup will be paired with a Calcaire 1999 Chardonnay.

Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Stephen E. Rodriguez, son of Elizabeth and Lawrence Purnell of Costa Mesa, was promoted to his current rank while serving at the Naval Nuclear Power Training Command in Goose Creek, S.C. Rodriguez was promoted for superior job performance and proficiency in his designated specialty. He graduated from Estancia High School in 2000. . . . Marine Corps Pvt. Arturo I. Estrada, son of Isidro Garcia Estrada of Costa Mesa, completed basic training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego.

Opera Pacific will present a Royal Russian Holiday Ball, an annual fund-raiser, on Dec. 1 at Disney's Grand Californian Hotel in Anaheim. The event will precede Opera Pacific's production of Peter Ilych Tchaikovsky's "Eugene Onegin" at the Orange County Performing Arts Center in February. Kenneth Verdugo will design the hotel's ballroom in the style of the Palace of St. Petersburg. Balalaika musicians will entertain guests and chorus-master Henri Venanzi will lead the Opera Pacific Orchestra in a performance of Russian and holiday selections.
