Carolin Botzenhardt, vice president of Private Wealth Management's German American business group, has relocated to the Orange County office of Deutsche Bank Private Wealth Management in Costa Mesa. Botzenhardt, a La Jolla resident, has experience in both the European and U.S. markets. As a wealth advisor, she helps identify individuals' needs and offers a variety of products and services that best suit the client. Prior to joining Deutsche Bank Private Wealth Management, Botzenhardt was employed as a financial advisor at Morgan Stanley Dean Witter in San Diego.

UCI (14-7, 2-1 in conference) outscored the No. 15 Aggies, 3-1, in the final quarter. McKenna Mitchell led UCI with two goals. Jillian Yocum made six saves for the Anteaters. Orange Coast College sophomore Courtney Ford, the Orange Empire Conference Player of the Year after leading the Pirates women’s basketball team to the conference title last season, has verbally committed to continue her career at Mercer University in Macon, Ga., OCC Coach Mike Thornton announced Wednesday. Ford, a 5-foot-7 guard, averaged 20.5 points, 7.2 rebounds, 3.5 steals and 2.9 assist while leading the Pirates to a 28-4 record, including a 14-0 mark in conference, in 2006-07.

Corona del Mar High senior Phil Bannon has committed to continue his volleyball career at UC San Diego, Sea Kings Coach Steve Conti announced Monday. Bannon, a 6-foot setter in his third season as the varsity starter, helped the Sea Kings advance to CIF Southern Section title matches in 2005 and 2006. Last season, with Bannon acting as the offensive trigger man, Bannon helped CdM reach the Division II title match, which they lost to Valencia. As a sophomore, Bannon helped CdM defeat Valencia of Valencia to win the Southern Section Division II crown.

sports briefs for Tuesday sectionUCI SWIMMERS LAUDED UC Irvine sophomore Randall Tom and junior Ashley DePaul were each named Big West Conference Athlete of the Week in men's and women's swimming, respectively, following their performance in UCI's sweep at UC San Diego on Jan. 28. Tom won all three of his events at the UC San Diego meet to lead the Anteaters to a 179.5-118.5 victory. He recorded a winning time of 1 minute, 50.16 seconds in the 200-yard butterfly. He also won the 200 breaststroke (2:05.

UCI wins $9-million grant from foundation UC Irvine has received a $9-million grant to help shorten emergency response time by improving communications between first responders to crises and natural disasters. The award comes from the National Science Foundation, which also gave $3.5 million to UC San Diego for the five-year project, called "Responding to the Unexpected." It will use information technology to develop organizational strategies between law enforcement, fire departments and other agencies.

A handful of former Orange Coast College baseball players have lined up futures at four-year programs, Pirates Coach John Altobelli announced. Brandon Dixon, an All-Southern California performer for the Pirates as a sophomore last season after going 10-5 with a 3.23 earned-run average, will play next season at Point Loma Nazarene. Dixon, who transferred to OCC from Cypress College helped Altobelli’s squad finish 32-15-1 and reach the Southern California Super Regionals. Dixon, a left-hander who was 4-3 with a 2.16 ERA through Sunday in 41 2/3 innings with the Peninsula Oilers in the Alaska summer league, was a first-team all-conference honoree last season at OCC. Wes Kartch, a second baseman for the Pirates, is also bound for Point Loma, a Golden State Athletic Conference rival of Vanguard University.

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL UC Irvine def. UC San Diego LA JOLLA — Sophomore Austin D’Amore had a career-high 12 total blocks (one solo) to help the No. 10-ranked Anteaters to a 30-23, 30-13, 30-21 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation win Friday. Sophomore Carson Clark also posted a career-high seven total blocks to go with a match-high 17 kills for UCI (14-13, 9-11 in the MPSF). Setter Jeff Schmitz recorded 37 set assists. Setter Phil Bannan, a Corona del Mar product, recorded 28 assists and a team-high seven digs for the No. 14 Tritons (8-18, 4-15)
