Senior guard Jerry Green scored 27 points to lead the UC Irvine men's basketball team to a 79-62 first-round victory over Lipscomb in the Oneida Classic hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay Friday. Jordan Harris chipped in with 16 points and 10 rebounds for the Anteaters (7-4). Also contributing for UCI were Mike Hood (10 points), Adam Parada (nine points, five rebounds) and Stanislav Zuzak (eight points, 11 rebounds). The Anteaters cruised to a 39-23 lead at halftime.

UC Irvine senior guard Jerry Green was named Big West Conference Player of the Week for men's basketball. He scored a game-high 31 points and made the game-winning shot at the buzzer to lift UCI over host Utah State, 67-66, Thursday to snap the Aggies' 31-game win streak at home. Green added 14 points in the Anteaters' 92-54 victory at Idaho Saturday, marking the 27th straight game he has scored in double figures. Last week, Green shot 57% from the floor, 54% from three-point range and made all of his free-throw attempts.

GREEN BAY, Wis. - Tournament most valuable player Jerry Green scored a game-high 23 points to lead UC Irvine over Boston University, 77-71, in the championship game of the Oneida Classic at Brown Arena Saturday night. Green, who scored 16 points in the second half as the Anteaters improved to 8-4 overall, moved into second place on UCI's career scoring list with 1,622 points, passing Dave Baker (1,602) Saturday. Tod Murphy (1,778) is the school's all-time leading scorer.

FULLERTON - UC Irvine senior guard Jerry Green will most likely become the school's all-time leading scorer tonight as the Anteaters (15-6, 8-2), the team with the best record in the Big West Conference, challenges host Cal State Fullerton (4-15, 1-9), the squad with the worst record. Tip-off for the men's basketball game is at 7:05. "It's pretty exciting," Green said. "It's something I'm always going to remember. Hopefully nobody else will break it. It's really a great honor.

The UC Irvine men’s basketball program has added three recruits, but has lost top assistant Tod Murphy. Murphy, the school’s No. 2 all-time scorer who spent the last six seasons on Coach Pat Douglass’ staff, was hired this week as the head coach at Gordon College, a Division III school in Wenham, Mass. High school seniors Brandon Durham, Brandon Scott and Michael Wilder all signed letters of intent during the spring signing period. Murphy played five seasons in the NBA and had a 10-year professional career after earning honorable mention in All-American voting at UCI in 1985.

Richard Dunn LOS ANGELES - It was Jerry Green's world Wednesday night. The rest of those in men's basketball uniforms were just living in it. After UC Irvine Coach Pat Douglass put his squad through a tough East Coast tournament, the Anteaters returned to action on the West Coast and warmed quickly while facing host Loyola Marymount. Green scored 36 points and passed former All-American Kevin Magee for fifth place on UCI's career scoring list as the Anteaters defeated the Lions, 71-59, in nonconference play.

Steve Virgen Tod Murphy will return to his alma mater as an assistant men's basketball coach for UC Irvine, head coach Pat Douglass said Thursday. Murphy's appointment is effective May 1. UCI had a vacant assistant position open after former assistant Len Stevens resigned for personal reasons in the middle of last season. The Anteaters might be without another assistant, as associate head coach Todd Lee interviewed for the head coach position with UC Davis Thursday.

Oliver, 57, the lead assistant at Stanford for two seasons under former Cardinal head man Trent Johnson, is also a former head coach at Idaho State. Amara Aguilar Four years ago UC Irvine wasn't even a blip on the radar of men's college basketball along the West Coast, but there was a glimmer of hope for the program in a young player out of Pomona High named Jerry Green. The Anteaters went from sixth in the Big West during Green's first season on the team in 1998-99 to first in the conference last season. Green was named the Big West Player of the Year last season and in tonight's contest against host Cal State Fullerton he will most likely become the school's all-time leading scorer.

Amara Aguilar The point isn't the points. Former UC Irvine men's basketball player Tod Murphy sets the record straight when he talks about the school mark he holds for most career points. Murphy piled up 1,778 points in 117 games while playing for the Anteaters from 1982-86. "It's been nice, but my memories aren't of all the points I scored," Murphy said. "My memories are of the great times I had when I played here." Murphy, now an assistant men's basketball coach at UC Riverside, played for the Anteaters under prolific coach Bill Mulligan and was a member of the UCI squad in 1985-86 that defeated UNLV twice in one season and pulled out a win over UCLA at Pauley Pavilion.
