The Alligators faced the Tidal Waves in an AYSO Region 57 girls under-7 soccer game Saturday. Catherine Patel scored four goals and Karissa Reinach and Kati Wechsler each scored one. Katie Donahue and Caitlin Hutt also contributed on offense. Brooke Donahue, Sally Evans and Kelsey Christensen dominated on defense. Kristina Sparling was solid in the net. In boys under-7 action: The Blue Gators were led by Matthew Sherburne and Alex Jenkins on offense.

COSTA MESA - Goalies Danny Miller and Cameron Holmes led the Tsunamis to a 4-0 shutout of the Tidal Waves in AYSO Division 5 (8-9 year-olds) soccer action. Kyle Caldwell scored two goals and Erik Bonn had two assists for the Tsunamis. Other goals were scored by Miller and Ceasar Amador. The Tsunamis defense was led by sweeper Rex Nelson and fullbacks Cameron Chase, Hayden Navarro, Michael Bingham and Steven Reader. In other Division 5 action: Bullets 2, Green Team 1: The Newport Beach Bullets were led by Luke Sequeira and Jonathan Mena, who each scored goals.

CORONA DEL MAR - The Tidal Waves, an AYSO Region 57 girls under 10 gold all-star team, defeated Costa Mesa, 3-2, to open the 2000 all-star season. Julian Piggot, Colleen Heyler and Alex Tobiessen each scored goals for the Tidal Waves, with assists coming from Taylor Jones and Emily Hillgren. Other offensive support came from Chelsea Dalton, Lindsay Seeley, Su-Yin Bickner and Claire Schloemer, while Alison Luke, Courtney Heard, Kimmy Von der Ahe, Rachel Parker and Jessica Poulson provided solid defense.

COSTA MESA - The Tidal Waves, an AYSO Region 57 girls under 10 gold all-star team defeated Costa Mesa, 6-1, before dropping a 2-1 decision to North Irvine last weekend. In the win over Costa Mesa, Emily Hillgren and Claire Schloemer each scored two goals, while single goals were scored by Juliane Piggot and Alex Tobiessen. Goalkeeper Jessica Poulsen had numerous saves for the Tidal Waves, allowing only one goal, scored by Costa Mesa's Stacey McDaniels.

Led by the scoring of Cameron Davis, the Blue Tsunami knocked off the Squidwards 2-1, Saturday in boys under-10 play. Davis was assisted by Andrew Francini, and the team as a whole played solid defense. Patrick Angelo, Ryan Greenwald, Nick Becker and Jack Flanigan led the defensive charge, while Max Premer and Andrew Minkus sparked the offense. Tidal Waves 8, Newport United 0 Max Condon led the scoring for the Tidal Waves with three goals in the boys under-10 rout of Newport United.

Emily Kretos scored four goals in Sunkissed's, 7-1, victory over the Pink Panthers in AYSO Region 57 girls under 10 action. Katherine Noe and Olivia Peterson also scored goals for Sunkissed, with assists coming from Peterson, Natasha Fisker and Sara Machoskie. Alexa Losey and Jamie Kingkade played solid defense, and Noe and Marit Vangrow were stingy goaltenders. Kiani leads Waves Eli Kiani had a hat trick to lead the AYSO Region 57 boys under 10 Tidal Waves to a season opening, 4-3, victory over the Patriots.

Nicole Franco, Kathryn Snell and Brenda Luna contributed with key passing and assists. Julia Frei and McKenna Johnson each tapped a ball into the net and Samantha Sanchez scored on a penalty kick. Girls under-8 Tidal Waves: Destry Comp scored two goals and Julia Ackerman added an insurance goal. Emma Hammond also stood out for the Tidal Waves with several great dribbling runs.

NEWPORT BEACH - Max Royer and Marcos Castaneda each scored for the Blue Vipers in their 2-0 win Saturday in AYSO Region 97, Under-10 boys soccer action. Castaneda goal was a own goal, while Royer's goal came off a pass from Wes Parks. Mark Espinoza also aided in the offensive attack of the Blue Vipers with numerous shots on goal. Leading the Blue Vipers to the shutout were goalies Henry Pyle and Peter Hapke, along with strong defensive play from Timothy Regan, Humberto Lozano, Santiago Castaneda, Drew Wittenberg, Jason Wittman, Blake Chiapuzzo and Darren Leggett.

Four goals by four different players helped the Costa Mesa Boys under-15 APP soccer team down Yorba Linda, 4-0, in an AYSO Region 120 soccer game. Juan Perez, Jordan Kalke, Jay Benny Quiroz and Nick Juarez each scored one goal and Shawn Engmann and Ernesto Castadena had assists for Costa Mesa, now 5-1-1. Goalkeeper Matt Pisarski made two saves. In Boys under-14 APP play: Costa Mesa beat San Juan Capistrano and Laguna Niguel in pool play games.

The Corona del Mar Green Gators edged CdM United, 5-4, Saturday, Nov. 15, to advance to the championship game in the boys under-14 division of AYSO Region 57. The Gators opened up a 3-0 lead in the first half with goals by Camden Nicholson, Dillon Norton and David Grant. The United, led by Parker Reed, came back to tie the game and eventually took a 4-3 lead. But Nicholson weaved his way through the United defense to score the tying goal and James Petrilli kicked the deciding goal on an assist by Max Newfield a few minutes later.

"We haven't played well for 2 1/2 weeks. The guys have had midterms and it was an emotional January," UCI Coach John Speraw said.

NEWPORT BEACH - The Corona del Mar girls under 10 gold all-star team, the Tidal Waves, shut out Tustin, 1-0, Saturday to secure first place in the Area Q all-star season. Taylor Jones scored the game's lone goal off an assist from Alex Tobiessen. Leading the offensive charge for the Tidal Waves was Leah Zarian, Emily Hillgren and Claire Schloemer. Controlling the midfield was Colleen Heyler, Su-Yin Bickner, Chelsea Dalton and Juliane Piggot. On defense, Lindsay Seeley, Rachel Parker, Kimmy Von der Ahe, Alison Luke and Courtney Heard limited Tustin's chances, while goalkeeper Jessica Poulsen preserved the shutout.
