Charles V. Ecclestone Jr. Services for 40-year Newport Beach resident Charles V. Ecclestone Jr. will be held at 1 p.m. May 21 at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, 600 St. Andrews Road, Newport Beach. Mr. Ecclestone died April 18 after a brief illness. He was 93. He is survived by wife Marian; four children; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. The Daily Pilot welcomes obituaries for residents or former residents of Costa Mesa and Newport Beach.

The Fellowship of Christian Athletes will present its second annual Orange County Night of Champions at 5 p.m. Friday at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Newport Beach. The evening's theme will be "More Than Winning." Mark Boyer, a former professional football player and director of the fellowship, will host the event. Athletes, coaches and students from all over the county are invited to attend the dinner. Special guest speakers will include football stars Ken Johnson and Tarik Glenn from the Indianapolis Colts, and professional women's volleyball player Jenny Jordan.

Construction of new medians and narrowing of streets to slow traffic in Newport Heights will begin by the end of the month and finish in August, Newport Beach city traffic engineer Tony Brine said. The first median and narrowing projects, about $117,000, will take place on 15th Street, St. Andrews Road and Cliff Drive. They are intended to slow cars down, and they will be followed by other projects that have yet to be determined. Brine said the $200,000 in this year's budget for traffic calming will pay for more work in Newport Heights, Cliffhaven and other parts of the city.

SPECIAL EVENTS CAPPELLA CANTORUM Cappella Cantorum, the young adult choir of St. John Vianney Chapel, is beginning its fifth year. The choir is open to students in grades six to 12. It provides active faith participation for teens during their high school years. Participation includes singing at mass regularly and at special events. Rehearsals are from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays in the Chapel at 314 Marine Ave., Balboa Island. Younger children are invited to join.

The third annual Newport Beach Spring Antiques Show will begin today and runs through Sunday at the Newport Dunes Waterfront Pavilion at the Newport Dunes Resort, 1131 Back Bay Drive, Newport Beach. More than 50 dealers displaying American, English and Asian goods, such as porcelain, sliver, rugs, glass, fine art and jewelry, will converge on the three-day event that also features a Luncheon Lecture Series each of the three days. Lecture tickets are $50 per person or $500 per table.

Janie Arnold-76. Janie was born May 16, 1933 in Rushville, New York and passed away peacefully at her home in Costa Mesa, CA on July 21, 2009. A resident of Newport Beach/ Costa Mesa since 1970, Janie leaves behind a wide circle of friends and loved ones. She was a wonderful mother and an even better “Gram.” Outside of her family she loved politics, bridge with friends, gardening and her peony farm. Her son Carl Jenson precedes her in death.

St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church is holding its 49th annual rummage sale next week at 600 St. Andrews Road, Newport Beach.   As this giant sale approaches the completion of its first half century, it has grown to about 45,000 square feet of merchandise. Clothing, furniture, sporting equipment, electronics, books, home goods of all types, and much, much more will be for sale!   Last year the sale grossed almost $60,000. All profits are passed on outside of St. Andrew?

CARLENE CARTER WALTON Passed away December 6, 2009 at the age of 76. Born July 18, 1933 in Los Angeles, the family soon moved to Burbank, California. Known by her nickname of “Tickey”, she was very active at Burroughs High School where she held many school offices, was selected as a Song Leader and elected Senior Prom Queen. Carlene then attended Brigham Young University and graduated with a degree in Religious Studies from California State University, Northridge.
