1. COMING UP ROSES The Sherman Library and Gardens presents "Rose Pruning," a free program that will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday. Garden director Wade Roberts will demonstrate correct rose pruning and discuss the cultural needs for growing healthy roses. The Sherman Library and Gardens is at 2647 East Coast Highway, Corona del Mar. For more information, call (949) 673-2261. 2. BOBBING FOR APPLES The meeting of the Orange County Apple Computer Club will feature a slide show and video presentation by Dean Cleary, who will demonstrate new technology from the recent MacWorld Expo.

Ann Rawlings died peacefully at home on October 15th. Born Ann Sherwin in Casper Wyoming in 1934, Ann moved with her family at age 8 to Long Beach, California. Educated at Long Beach State University with a degree in teaching, she married fellow classmate Gary Rawlings in 1955. Ann and Gary moved to Orange County in 1961. After raising their daughter, Andrea, Ann went to work at Merrill Lynch where she worked for over 25 years as a broker’s assistant. Ann had a passion for tennis enjoying many a game at the Marriott Tennis Club, and gardening which lead her to many years of volunteering at the Sherman Library and Gardens.

The charming fired-adobe building at Dahlia Avenue and Pacific Coast Highway in Corona del Mar is set back, a little hidden and somewhat deceiving at first glance. Beyond the iron gates that house the Sherman Library and Gardens, a narrow pathway leads guests toward rose gardens, fountains, sculptures and a profusion of color from flowers in beds and hanging baskets. Wade Roberts, the garden director at Sherman Library and Gardens for the past 41 years, said first-time visitors had no idea what they were missing.

The bride is the daughter of Ross and Bonnie McElfresh of Newport Beach. The bride wore a strapless silk organza and silk satin gown by Angelina CoutureThe matron of honor was Zuly Sanchez.The bridegroom is the son of Lynette Matheny of Pensacola, Fla., and Dwight Pitman of San Diego.
