NEWPORT BEACH - In preparation for the Santa Barbara Tournament, the Newport Harbor High girls volleyball team dropped Woodbridge in three games for a Sea View League victory at Harbor Thursday. The Sailors won, 15-2, 15-6, 15-12, as Liz Lord finished with five kills and Christine Woller collected three kills and four service aces. Harbor (11-6, 5-2 in the Sea View League) will play today in the 16-team Santa Barbara Tournament of Champions and will face San Marcos at 1 p.m. Then, the Sailors will play at 7 p.m. Both matches are at Santa Barbara High with the tournament continuing into Saturday.

ALISO VIEJO - Newport Harbor High's girls water polo team crushed Sea View League host Aliso Niguel, 15-1, Wednesday. The Sailors, ranked No. 8 in CIF Southern Section Division I concludes their league season 3-1, and 19-7 overall. They move on to the CIF playoffs as a No. 2 seed. Katherine Belden and Jenna Murphy led Newport with three goals each. Ten different Sailors scored, with Belden, Murphy and Heather Tangen the only Newport player with more than one goals.

LAGUNA HILLS - Newport Harbor High's softball team got bitten by the long ball in Friday's 18-3 Sea View League loss to host Laguna Hills. Three home runs by Laguna Hills (13-5, 2-0 in league), including a grand slam, was just too much for the Sailors (9-2, 0-2) to overcome. Kristen Smith had a triple and home run to lead the Sailors' attack. LAGUNA HILLS - Miguel Sandoval tossed a complete-game two-hitter to lead Newport Harbor High's baseball team to a 4-1 win over host Laguna Hills Thursday in Sea View League action. Nick Langsdorf smacked a home run to lead the Sailors' attack, while Donovan Wong chipped in with a double. Newport (3-12, 2-9 in league) will compete in the Pride of the Coast Baseball Tournament during spring break. NEWPORT BEACH - Newport Harbor High's softball team opened Sea View League competition with a 6-0 loss to visiting Irvine Wednesday. The Sailors (9-8 overall) could only muster one hit off of Villanova University-bound Kari Singley. The Vaqueros' hurler struck out 12 and only allowed a single by Stephanie Ciralli in the game. On defense, Breanne Parmeter threw out an Irvine runner from right field, while Mariko Makami played solid in center. NEWPORT BEACH - Newport Harbor High's softball team gave visiting Woodbridge too many opportunities, while Warrior pitcher Breonna Crouch gave the Sailors none. Woodbridge (12-7, 1-1 in league) scored four unearned runs en route to a 5-0 Sea View League victory over the Sailors (9-10, 0-3) Wednesday. Crouch only gave up three Newport singles to Lisa Huntington, Amanda Campbell and Shelby Crisp. NEWPORT BEACH - In Wednesday's game, Newport Harbor High's softball team lost to visiting Laguna Hills, 3-1, in a Sea View League game. The Sailors (9-11, 0-6) in league only had three hits. Two of them were singles by Breanne Parmeter, and Lisa Huntington had an RBI single in the third that scored Lauren Gallardo. The Hawks are now 17-8, 4-2 in league. ALISO VIEJO - Ashley Gleason and Amanda Campbell were the only players for Newport Harbor High's softball team to collect base hits Tuesday as the Sailors were shut out by Aliso Niguel junior Jessica Skaare, 3-0, in a Sea View League opener at Aliso Niguel. Gleason singled and walked, while Campbell singled against Skaare, whose Wolverines entered at 2-12 overall. Newport Harbor, which fell to 13-3, hosts Irvine Thursday. Skaare outdueled Newport Harbor pitcher Kim Moore (9-2)

ALISO VIEJO - Newport Harbor High senior Mike Jones went 2 for 3 to account for half of the Sailors' hits in a 16-1 Sea View League baseball loss Wednesday at Aliso Niguel. Andre Pinesett, who drove in Lu Castillo for the Tars' only run in the sixth, and Mike McLean also had singles for the Sailors (4-16, 0-9 in league).
