Harbor Boulevard: Forgery was reported in the 2700 block at 11:36 a.m. Thursday. Nancy Lane: A hit-and-run with property damage was reported at 2:27 p.m. Thursday. Scott Place: A disturbance was reported in the 700 block at 12:05 a.m. Thursday.

Police arrest man for starting scuffle Costa Mesa Police arrested an Irvine man Thursday evening after an altercation over some dropped clothes at Macy's in South Coast Plaza. Victor Manuel Cornelio, 47, was shopping in the department store at about 5 p.m. Thursday, Costa Mesa Police Sgt. Marty Carver said. Cornelio confronted 29-year-old North Hills resident Warren DeLeon, after he saw DeLeon kick some fallen clothes underneath a rack, Carver said.

This image of an Orange County Fire Authority firefighter from Station 51 in Irvine was shot on my way in to Costa Mesa at the start of my work day. He's pulling hose from a fire truck as he prepares to attack the fire in the cab of a big rig on the San Diego Freeway at the Jeffrey Road off-ramp Tuesday.It's rare being able to capture an automobile still in flames. I happened to be driving by as the cab became fully engulfed in flames, and before fire crews arrived at the scene.

Man arrested after alleged rock assault A 21-year-old homeless woman suffered minor injuries after her boyfriend assaulted her with a rock Thursday morning in a brush area off of the San Diego Freeway, near Bristol Street, Costa Mesa Police officials said. Police arrested 34-year-old Robert William Odom, also a transient, on suspicion of domestic violence and assault with a deadly weapon, Costa Mesa Police Sgt. Marty Carver said. Witnesses called police after they saw Odom assaulting the woman, who remained unidentified because she is a victim of a violent crime, Carver said.

Deepa Bharath A Superior Court judge today is expected to decide the fate of a 33-year-old Mission Viejo man, who is accused of hitting and injuring a Costa Mesa police officer while driving his motorcycle drunk, officials said. Prosecutors said Javier Gasga was driving his motorcycle at more than 100 mph on the San Diego Freeway the night of May 31 when he hit Costa Mesa Police Officer Dennis Dickens, who was riding his motorcycle back to the Police Department after completing his shift.

Deirdre Newman A county agency is looking to alleviate the notoriously nightmarish "Orange Crush," with early options that include extending the Orange Freeway south through the Mesa Verde neighborhood in Costa Mesa. The Orange County Transportation Authority, an agency with a board that includes several elected representatives from all over the county, has begun a study to explore options to improve travel in central Orange County. Officials are asking the public to weigh in on these options.

Alicia Robinson Drivers new to the area may not notice improvements to the junction of the San Diego and Corona del Mar freeways, but public officials today will celebrate the completion of $54 million in widened lanes, realigned on- and off-ramps and other work that took years to plan and build. A few last bits of work remain, such as improvements to the Harbor Boulevard and Fairview Road on- and off-ramps and completion of some sound walls along the San Diego Freeway, but the majority of the project is complete.

Deepa Bharath A local car dealership will present a special award to a Costa Mesa police officer at Monday's City Council meeting for saving the life of a fellow officer and another man during a Memorial Day high-speed crash on the freeway. Officer Tony Yannizzi and his partner, Officer David Dickens, were riding south on the San Diego Freeway. They were north of Harbor Boulevard in the carpool lane after completing their shift at about 10 p.m. when an allegedly speeding third motorcycle came from behind and hit Dickens' motorcycle.
