DANA POINT - The Corona del Mar High boys' lacrosse team stayed perfect and it pulled off the feat in a game it failed to win the last two times. The contest is the biggest one in Orange County every year. In their third trip to the U.S. Lacrosse Southern Section South Division finale in four years, the Sea Kings can call themselves champions. Top-seeded CdM grabbed the lead first and never trailed. The Sea Kings finished their opponent this time, beating third-seeded San Clemente, 9-6, at Dana Hills High on Wednesday night.

ALISO VIEJO - The day after his father passed away, G.W. Mix said it was not hard to come out and coach his Corona del Mar High boys' lacrosse team Saturday. Mix said his dad, Warren "Moose" Mix, would have wanted it that way. "My dad was a baseball player in college," G.W. Mix said. "He was an athlete and a coach, and he wouldn't have wanted me to be anywhere else. Consequently, I didn't want to be anywhere else. " The Sea Kings still had a great night in the U.S. Lacrosse Southern Section South Division semifinals.

NEWPORT BEACH - Nobody said the CIF Southern Section Division I playoffs were going to be easy. Even when you're the No. 2 seed. The Newport Harbor High boys' water polo team got a good game from San Clemente on Wednesday evening in the first round of the playoffs. And, though the Sailors felt like they could have played better, the goal is to move on. The Sailors did, pulling away in the second quarter to earn a 14-8 victory over the Tritons at Newport Harbor High.

SAN CLEMENTE - Coach Jeff Brinkley called Friday's night game the most physical of the year for Newport Harbor High. By the number of personal-foul penalties called on San Clemente, you might understand why. The Sailors fought back the right way and they had more than a fighter's chance at San Clemente, ranked No. 4 in the CIF Southern Section Pac-5 Division. But just like the first two games of the year, the Sailors fell at the end. San Clemente won, 24-12, and stayed perfect at 5-0, while the Sailors searched for answers.

NEWPORT BEACH — One San Clemente High volleyball player walked onto the Newport Harbor court with a helmet. The helmet did not have a facemask, but it looked like one used in the 1930s in football. The player was not the only one from his team who needed protection Thursday night in the second round of the CIF Southern Section Division I playoffs. In the third set, Scott Hair raced toward the stands to get to a live ball, but a Newport Harbor football player sitting in the first row grabbed Hair and then pushed him. San Clemente Coach Ken Goldstone raised his hands in objection and Newport Harbor Coach Dan Glenn understood why. He saw it all happen.

CORONA DEL MAR — While players, fans and coaches left the lacrosse field, Coach G.W. Mix was picking up trash on the other sideline at Corona del Mar High. Mix was more than happy to do it Tuesday. His boys' team had disposed of Back Bay rival Newport Harbor, 13-9, in the opening round of the U.S. Lacrosse Orange County Southern Section Division I playoffs. It was Mix's time to clean up and then get the Sea Kings ready for the next round at fourth-seeded San Clemente on Thursday.
