GIRLS' GOLF University 211, Sage Hill 239 IRVINE — Sophomore Stephanie Cho shot a four-over-par 40 to lead the Lightning in their season opener Wednesday at Strawberry Farms Golf Course. Freshman Michelle Chen shot a 44 and senior Angela Choi carded a 48. Chen, playing in her first high school match, eagled the par-five No. 6 hole. Sage Hill's score was 11 strokes lower than the team average last year. The Lightning scored 220 Thursday to beat the Santa Margarita JV Gold team at Strawberry Farms.

GIRLS' VOLLEYBALL Sage Hill def. Crean Lutheran IRVINE - Halland Mckenna had 15 kills, 10 digs and two aces to help lead the Lightning to a 25-16, 25-21, 25-13 Academy League-opening win Friday night. Maggie Danner had 10 kills, seven digs and two aces, while Kekai Whitford had nine kills and nine digs for Sage Hill (8-3, 1-0 in league), which plays at St. Margaret's Tuesday at 6 p.m.

IRVINE - To avoid the heat, the Sage Hill School baseball team waited in the dugout for the home plate umpire to arrive to Friday's game. He ran late because of traffic, which postponed the start time 23 minutes. "Umpire just got off the freeway," Crean Lutheran Coach Jake Haney said to Sage Hill Coach Dominic Campeau, who expected his team to play at 2:45 p.m. The scheduled time was 30 minutes before most contests Sage Hill plays. By the time the ump made it to the field at Cypress Community Park, it neared Sage Hill's regular start time to games.

Sage Hill School junior CJ McCord cleared 6 feet, 9 inches to break a school record and win the high jump at the Ocean View Small Schools Invitational Saturday. McCord's mark is No. 2 in the state. Senior Eric Moore of Rialto Carter is No. 1 at 7-feet. McCord's 6-9 is an improvement of seven inches from his personal record last season. He will compete in the OC Championships Saturday at Mission Viejo High. - From staff reports

BOYS' LACROSSE Corona del Mar 16, Sage Hill 3 Junior Ben Palitz finished with three goals, two assists and four groundballs to lead the visiting Sea Kings, ranked No. 13 in the state by laxpower.com, in a nonleague contest on Friday. Stephen Von Der Ahe recorded four goals, one assist and one groundball for CdM (10-1). Jason Simaan won eight of nine faceoffs for the Sea Kings, and Sam Haase eight of 10. CdM goalie Hoyt Crance made four saves. Sage Hill dropped to 4-4. The Sea Kings play host to Santa Margarita on Tuesday at 3:45 p.m. Sage Hill is at Woodbridge on Monday at 4 p.m.

Kekai Whitford, Sage Hill School's dynamic junior, has committed to play for the Loyola Marymount University women's volleyball team, said Billy Whitford, Kekai's father. Whitford led Sage Hill to its most successful season in the fall, when the program shared the Academy League title, claimed the CIF Southern Section Division 3A title, and advanced to the CIF State Southern California Regional Division III finals. Whitford, an outside hitter at Sage Hill, earned the CIF Southern Section Division 3A Player of the Year and Academy League MVP awards after she finished with 424 kills, 350 digs and 84 service aces.

Sage Hill School junior forward Tyler Hague is a first-team All-Academy League selection in boys' basketball. Hague averaged 12.7 points, six rebounds, two assists and 1.2 steals per game. Hague helped the Lightning (15-10, 7-5 in league) split third place in league, the program's first top-three finish since the 2009-10 season. Sage Hill advanced to the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division 4A playoffs. Sage Hill junior guard Krishan Tarsadia and senior center Cameron Hall made the second team, while senior guard Jack Williamson was an honorable mention.

BASEBALL Sage Hill 4, St. Margaret's 2 SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO — Kellen Ochi and Harrison Rhee each singled in a run during a four-run top of the seventh inning by the Lightning in an Academy League opener on the road Tuesday. Sage Hill pitcher Parker Reposa (3-0) went the distance against the No. 7-ranked team in the CIF Southern Section Division 6 poll. He struck out four, and allowed four hits and no earned runs. Sage Hill (6-2, 1-0 in league) plays host to rival St. Margaret's on Friday at 3:15 p.m. — Laguna Beach 11, Estancia 2 LAGUNA BEACH — Aaron Boaitey went two for two with a run batted in and a double in the Eagles' Orange Coast League road game on Tuesday.

The fashion in which the Sage Hill School baseball team walked off the field Friday wasn't pretty. Nevertheless, the host school will take the result, a 10-9 walk-off win against Saddleback Valley Christian. "I couldn't believe it," Sage Hill Coach Dominic Campeau said of watching his team rally for four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, two errors leading to the first and last runs. "If you're going to play ugly, and you get the win, it's always a positive. It's not the effort.

BASEBALL Sage Hill 5, St. Anthony 3 Junior Christopher Goul went one for three with two runs batted in for the Lightning in a nonleague game on Tuesday. Jack Pelc had a double and an RBI for Sage Hill (3-1). Brett Super earned his second win of the season after going five innings. He allowed one earned run. Parker Reposa got the save after striking out two in one inning. The letters across the Pasadena Poly boys' soccer team's warmup tops spelled out Polytechnic Soccer. Pyrotechnic Soccer might have been more fitting on Tuesday, when the visiting Panthers exploded for two goals in the first eight minutes and went on to record a 4-0 victory over Sage Hill in the second round of the CIF Southern Section Division 6 playoffs. BOYS' TENNIS Sage Hill 14, Laguna Beach 4 Sage Hill's Adam Langevin, Omeed Moini and Kenan Torlic all swept in singles in Tuesday's nonleague season opener at The Tennis Club Newport Beach. Shayan Emtiaz and David Kim also swept at No. 1 doubles for the Lightning, while Kian Etedali and Grant Janavs took two sets at No. 2 doubles. Sage Hill hosts the five-team Lightning Invitiational beginning Friday at The Tennis Club. Other teams participating include Newport Harbor, Tesoro, Canyon and St. Margaret's.
