SAN DIEGO - The Orange Coast College men's basketball team lost its season opener Wednesday at the hands of San Diego Mesa, 87-74. Nick Burwell had 22 points, including three three-pointers to lead the visiting Pirates. Ryan Earl added 16 points, while Chad Hagedorn chipped in with 12. COSTA MESA - The Orange Coast College men's basketball team lost its home opener Saturday afternoon to Mira Costa, 86-83, in nonconference action. The Pirates were led by Nick Burwell's 29 points, including six three-pointers, while Ryan Earl added 17 points, eight rebounds and six assists. OCC shot only 54% from the free-throw line, making only 20 of 37 attempts. Chad Hagedorn crashed the boards for 15 rebounds to go along with his 14 points for OCC (0-2)

IMPERIAL - The Orange Coast College men's basketball team overcame a horrid first half of shooting to defeat host Imperial Valley, 78-69, Tuesday night in nonconference action. The Pirates (8-4) were 5 of 24 from the field in the first half and trailed by 12, before responding with a 51-point second half, led by the trio of Nick Burwell (24 points), Chad Hagedorn (20 points, 14 rebounds) and Ryan Earl (12 points eight assists). The Pirates will host Rio Hondo Thursday night at 7:30.

COSTA MESA - Orange Coast College's men's basketball team has been living the good life in overtime contests. Double-overtime is a different story, however. Despite a 25-point night from David Castleton, the Pirates (12-5, 1-1) fell short against visiting Cypress in 2 OTs, 101-98, if Orange Empire Conference action Friday night. Towan Oliver led the Chargers (8-11 overall) with 35 points and 14 rebounds. Chad Hagedorn scored 19 points for the Bucs, while Dave Elliott added 15 and Ryan Earl and Duc Nguyen each chipped in with 14. Orange Coast continues its OEC action of Friday at Fullerton College.

MISSION VIEJO - The Orange Coast College men's basketball team suffered a 90-68 loss to Orange Empire Conference leader Saddleback Tuesday. The Pirates (15-13, 6-7) were led by Chad Hagedorn who scored 17 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, while Ryan Earl (12 points) and Jeremy Madrid (13) also scored in double figures. Saddleback (28-2, 13-0), ranked No. 1 in the state, built a 53-33 first-half lead as Wes Bacchus led the way with a career-high 21 points.

COSTA MESA - The Orange Coast College men's basketball team led by as many as 22 points, but Orange Empire Conference visitor Cypress cut the lead to three in the second half, before the Pirates claimed an 88-78 triumph Saturday night. Cypress, trailing at halftime, 44-26, hit 19 of 41 second-half field-goal attempts, while OCC was connecting on just 7 of 18, to make things more interesting than the Pirates would have liked. OCC got 17 points from Nick Burwell and Ryan Webster, each of whom sank a trio of three-pointers.

Ryan Earl and Chad Hagedorn each scored 18 points to lead the visiting Pirates, (12-6), while Nick Burwell chipped in 14. Jon Tinnon and J.J. Sola each scored 15 points for Fullerton (13-16, 1-2 in OEC). Tony Altobelli IRVINE - It had the finesse of an intoxicated grizzly bear and the poetic ambience of a Vanilla Ice concert, but for the Orange Coast College men's basketball team, Thursday night's 72-66 Orange Empire Conference win over host Irvine Valley, ranked 10th in the state, was music to the ears of the Pirates. "We'll take it," a relieved OCC Coach Mark Hill said. "That was a huge win for us on the road against one of the top teams in our conference."

COSTA MESA - The Orange Coast College men's basketball team shot 55% from the field in the first half and controlled visiting Southwestern from start to finish en route to a 92-79 nonconference win Thursday. Nick Burwell led the Pirates (7-4) with 21 points, while Ryan Earl (16 points) and Jeremy Madrid (15 points) added to the Pirates' total. Chad Hagedorn controlled the glass, pulling down 13 rebounds to go along with his eight points and four assists.
