Here are some of the issues the commission considered Monday. LAW FOR CAR SALES LOTS The commission approved an ordinance establishing special zoning regulations for car sales lots. The ordinance involves changes to requirements for landscaped areas next to outdoor vehicle display areas and an allowance for businesses to install certain types of banners without having to get approval of a planned signage program. WHAT IT MEANS Car sales lots can install banners without having to get prior approval and can exceed the standard 20-foot landscape setback without having to ask for an exception.

ON THE AGENDA Here are a few things the Planning Commission will discuss at tonight's meeting. PLANNING APPLICATION The site, 2665 Harbor Blvd., has been vacant since Sept. 11, 1995, when the Bel Congo Motel was demolished. In October 1997, the Planning Commission approved a conditional use permit to establish and operate a new/used car dealership with an exception to allow auto display within the front setback area. The commission approved three extensions for this permit, with the last on June 25, 2001.

INSIDE THE MEETING Here are a few of the items the commission considered Monday: GENERAL PLAN AMENDMENT The Planning Commission approved a request for a general plan amendment and rezoning of properties at 1695 Superior Ave. and 635 W. 17th St. from Julio Gener of Studio 3 Architects, representing property owner Eugene Stirbu. The commission also approved an adjustment to combine the side-by-side properties into one, which would house an expanded Growers Direct.
