GIRLS' SOCCER Corona del Mar 2, Northwood 1 CORONA DEL MAR — Karsten Sigband had a goal and an assist for the Sea Kings in the Pacific Coast League game Thursday. Ally Brahs scored on a corner kick from Sigband, who later scored. Goalie Sarah Cox had six saves for CdM (17-1-1, 6-0 in league), ranked No. 2 in CIF Southern Section Division I. The Sea Kings play at Irvine Wednesday at 5 p.m. * Estancia 1, Calvary Chapel 1 COSTA MESA — Freshman Alba Barrios scored with 10 minutes left for Estancia in the Orange Coast League game Thursday at Jim Scott Stadium.

The top-seeded SOCAL Black 18-and-under girls' team, which features five local players, has advanced to the semifinals of the USA Water Polo Junior Olympics in the Bay Area. SOCAL Black defeated 680 Drivers, 9-2, in a quarterfinal match Saturday. SOCAL, which features recent Corona del Mar High graduates Alex Musselman, Pippa Saunders, Diana Murphy and Victoria Pierotti, as well as Newport Harbor graduate Maddy McLaren, will play second-seeded Santa Barbara in a semifinal match Sunday at 9 a.m. at Stanford University.

The Corona del Mar High girls' water polo team came out on top after another Battle of the Bay classic. The Sea Kings beat Newport Harbor, 5-4, in sudden-death triple overtime to win the Summer Tournament of Champions in Santa Barbara this weekend. Cassidy Papa scored the game-winning goal from six meters out 3 minutes, 45 seconds into sudden-death triple overtime. CdM scored first when Pippa Saunders delivered on a penalty shot. Newport followed with four unanswered goals to take a 4-1 halftime lead.

GIRLS’ WATER POLO Irvine Southern California Championships CORONA DEL MAR — Corona del Mar scored wins over Esperanza, 16-2, and Agoura, 18-0, to open the tournament at its pool Thursday. Pippa Saunders scored four goals in the win over Esperanza, while Leslee Kaczmarek notched six goals in the Sea Kings’ win over Agoura. GIRLS' WATER POLO Corona del Mar 17, Villa Park 3 CORONA DEL MAR — Cassidy Papa had five goals, three assists and a steal for the Sea Kings in the CIF Southern Section Division I first-round match Wednesday at CdM. Ally McCormick, Diana Murphy, Genevieve Weed and Pippa Saunders each scored twice for top-seeded CdM (26-2). Morgan Stewart, Kampbell Gritsch, Marina Coskinas and Briana Westrup added single goals for CdM, which played all 18 of its field players.

GIRLS' WATER POLO Irvine Southern California Championships CORONA DEL MAR - Senior Diana Murphy scored seven goals as top-seeded Corona del Mar beat Warren, 17-6, in the second round of the tournament Thursday at CdM. Pippa Saunders had four goals and Cassidy Papa added three for CdM (21-1), which beat Long Beach Cabrillo, 14-2, in the first round earlier Thursday behind four goals from Papa and three from Saunders. Senior goalie Alex Musselman made a combined 14 saves in the two games for the Sea Kings.
