Richard Dunn Danny Bibb has teed it up with myriad celebrities and some of the biggest names in golf, including an 18-hole tour of Pebble Beach with Arnold Palmer and a round at Big Canyon Country Club with fellow member Tiger Woods. Put it in the "not too surprising news" column: The Four Seasons in Newport Beach is one of the best hotels in the world Ever checked it out? If so, you know what the readers of Conde Nast Traveler's and Travel & Leisure magazines were thinking when they checked in. Luxurious entry. Spacious rooms -- and we haven't even seen the biggest ones. Plenty of room for parties and fund-raisers. The hotel is tops in an area filled with high-class elegance such as Newport-Mesa, but it gets a nice highlight of its own by being one of only 20 places in California to get mentioned by Conde Nast.

Richard Dunn For an easy $5 a year, yes, you too can own a private golf membership in Newport Beach. It's only nine holes, mind you, and it's putting only -- sort of like The Greens at Park Place in Irvine, about three miles up Jamboree Road -- but it's good fun and perfect for a date, corporate outing or family function. And, plus, you'll be a full-fledged club member alongside Arnold Palmer and Clint Eastwood. That's right. The King and Dirty Harry himself are honorary members at the Royal & Ancient Ambassadors Golf Club in Newport Beach.

ANDREW GLAZER NEWPORT BEACH -- Converting three floors of office space into an elaborate miniature golf course may not be the most conventional fund-raising technique. But it's a fun one -- and effective at drawing attention to an important cause. Employees of Knobbe, Martens, Olson & Bear -- a law firm specializing in intellectual property -- did just that Wednesday night to raise money for the Race for a Cure breast cancer charity. "It was a great morale boost and helped raise the company's awareness about breast cancer," said Kathy Collins, a legal assistant and breast cancer survivor who helped organize the event.

Willard Clark Fonda Pebble Beach ~ Willard Clark Fonda, fondly known as "Bill", passed away peacefully on February 18th, at the age of 91 with his beloved family holding vigil.  Born in Seattle, WA on June 14, 1920, he was a proud father, grandfather, great-grandfather and loving husband to his wife of 65 years, Jeanne, who preceded him in death. No greater love existed. Our extraordinary patriarch was wise, generous and profoundly loving, exuding confidence with loving advice, comforting and supporting his precious family at every opportunity.   In 1942, while attending Washington State University, Bill was drafted into World War II and trained as a pilot.

Bleary-eyed from both celebration and lack of sleep, Bernhard Langer was sitting at a table in a banquet room at the Newport Beach Country Club. The defending champion of the Toshiba Classic was fulfilling part of the duties, appearing at a media day the following year. The event allows media members the chance to ask Langer about his game and if he thinks he can defend his crown. Langer is a very pleasant person, personable once you talk to him and a real role model for the Champions Tour.

Richard Dunn As the Toshiba Senior Classic enters its milestone 10th year in our neighborhood, there's plenty of history on its side, beginning with golf's senior tour in 1994. But the Champions Tour event, which has been played at Newport Beach Country Club every year except the inaugural Toshiba Senior Classic in 1995 at Mesa Verde Country Club, goes beyond Omni putters and vacuum forged titanium drivers. Several golfers played in the former Crosby Southern Pro-Am at Newport Beach (formerly known as Irvine Coast Country Club)
