H. Hendy Associates, a Newport Beach-based interior design firm, has been selected to renovate the She She apparel boutique in Palm Desert. The 26-year-old firm, which has created architectural designs for Nike, Verizon, Rockwell Collins and others, is expected to finish work on She She in August. The store caters to a clientele of young women and also offers clothes for men and children. H. Hendy's design for the store includes ceiling installations with polka-dot diffused lighting elements, white tile floors and She She's butterfly logo displayed prominently outside.

Duane M. Steputis, 81, of Palm Desert, CA passed peacefully on September 28, 2011 with his wife and daughter by his side. Duane was born May 8, 1930 in Cairo, Nebraska and was raised in Ft. Collins, CO.  Duane served in the Navy from 1948 to 1954.  He achieved the rank of Lieutenant and was a Patrol Plane (VP-28) Commander assigned to stations in Barbers Point, HI, Naha, Okinawa, and Kodiak, Alaska. Upon returning to Honolulu, HI he met the love of his life Kay Wood and they were married in 1953.

Judy Wells Stafford passed away November 26 at her home in Palm Desert, Calif. A native of Long Beach, Calif., Judy was raised in Billings, Mont., and later Boise, Idaho where she graduated from Borah High School in 1960.  She then moved with her family to San Marino, Calif.,  where she attended Pasadena City College and graduated from San Diego State University. In 1967 she married Donald Solsby with whom she had two sons.  Prior to the birth of her children she was a teacher in Los Angeles-area public schools.  The couple lived in San Marino until 1979 when they moved to Newport Beach.

ANAHEIM - The Corona del Mar club water polo team, made up of players who will attend CdM High in the fall, won three straight games last weekend and qualified for the Junior Olympics. The CdM club team defeated the SoCal squad, 10-7, the Palm Desert club, 19-5, and scored a thrilling victory over the Irvine Aquatics Club, 8-6, at Servite High. The dominating win over Palm Desert clinched the qualification for CdM, which built a 12-1 lead in the first half, scoring eight goals in the second period.

OCC graduate wins Bessie Award for 'Low' An Orange Coast College alumni recently received the Bessie Award, one of dance's highest honors, at the 18th annual New York Dance and Performance Awards for a piece she created called "Low." Donna Uchizono, whose credits include a Guggenheim Fellowship, induction into OCC's Alumni Hall of Fame, a National Endowment for the Arts Choreographer's Fellowship and her own dance company, graduated from OCC in 1978.

Loving mother and friend to many, Ann was born May 26, 1931, in Omaha Neb., passed away on April 11, 2009 after a full and love filled life of 77 years. Preceded in death by her parents, William (Art) and Irene Hatteroth. She attended school at Beverly Hills High School and Stevens College. She was married to Robert E. Badham. Survived by her three children, Sharron A. Badham, Robert E. Badham, Jr. (Patti) and William A. Badham (Paula). Also survived by seven grandchildren, Andrew, Tricia, Sam, Billy, Bobby, Katie and Zack.

GIRLS’ TENNIS CdM All-American Tournament CORONA DEL MAR — Senior Melissa Matsuoka was named Most Valuable Player after she won all four of her singles matches to lead Corona del Mar to a third-place finish Saturday. Corona del Mar’s Katelyn Nguyen also earned all-tournament honors. Dana Hills won the 16-team tournament title, defeating Palm Desert on games, 53-45, after a 4-4 tie. CdM defeated Sage Hill, 8-0, in the first round Friday, then upset the No. 3-seeded Palos Verdes, 5-3, in the second round.

Macdonald, Charlotte Mary, Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend died January 26, 2010 in Huntington Beach. Born July 10, 1925, the daughter of Donald S. Williams and Flavia Sodergren Williams, Charlotte grew up in Los Angeles, where she graduated from Dorsey High School. Charlotte was active in Alpha Delta Pi at the University of Southern California, where she met Tyler Macdonald. After a brief courtship, they married in 1947.

Defending CIF Southern Section Division IV girls tennis champion Corona del Mar opens defense of its crown as the No. 1 seed, while Newport Harbor, the No. 2 seed in CIF Division II, will attempt to reach its third straight section final when the playoffs for both divisions begin Thursday. CdM (18-0), which recorded its third straight perfect season in the Pacific Coast League this fall, hosts Bishop Montgomery in the first round at 2 p.m. Newport Harbor (11-3)

PALM DESERT — Twenty hours after the Estancia High baseball program was on a high it last experienced 19 years ago, the Eagles came back down to earth Thursday. Tyler Rios said he was exhausted when he got off the bus at Palm Desert. Making a 115-mile trip after Estancia the night before won its first CIF Southern Section playoff game since 1992 took its toll. A second postseason victory in Division IV was out of the picture. The 2½-drive to Palm Desert lasted longer than the actual first-round game.

NEWPORT BEACH — Austin Di Giulio has watched his tennis idol win the tournament five minutes away from home. Di Giulio won’t get a chance this year to follow the road his older brother has conquered. Seeded No. 2 in the boys’ 12 singles division, Di Giulio is one of the favorites at the 20th annual Balboa Bay Club Junior Tennis Tournament. Di Giulio plans to play once more after easily getting past Alex Kuperstein, 6-0, 6-0, in his first match at The Tennis Club Tuesday.

A recovering drug addict was called homophobic slurs, held against his will and forced to repeat Scientology lessons at a pair of Southern California rehab homes, including one in Newport Beach, according to a lawsuit filed in Nevada County. In a lawsuit filed June 29 claiming breach of contract, misrepresentation and attempts at religious conversion, Sarah Locatelli claims her husband, Daniel, received no drug treatment, education or otherwise for the $20,000 they paid to Narconon Southern California in Newport Beach and Narconon Joshua Hills in Palm Desert in February 2008.

Long-time owner/operator of The Upper Crust on El Paseo Drive in Palm Desert passed away April 7, 2009. She touched the lives of so many people and will be sorely missed by everyone who knew and loved her. Margie, as many of us knew her, was born September 22, 1934 in Fredericktown, Missouri to Cora Jean and Richard Benjamin Wilson. She was the youngest of eight children in the Wilson family. At the age of 4, after both of her parents had passed away, Margie traveled to California with her older brother Donald who was closest to her in age. Soon after arriving, she was adopted by Veta and Kenneth Hawkins of South Pasadena.
