The Orange Crush team from the Region 57 Corona del Mar girls' under-9 Recreation League capped off an undefeated regular and postseason run with a 3 -0 victory over South Irvine Region 144 in the Area Q championship Sunday evening at Tustin Sports Park. There are 50 girls' U9 teams in Area Q, which is comprised of regions from Corona del Mar, Newport Beach, Costa Mesa, Tustin, North and South Irvine, as well as Yorba Linda. The Orange Crush went 9 -0 during the regular fall season play in Region 57, with a 47-goals-for and 10-against ratio.

COSTA MESA - The Orange Crush had a very successful week, defeating the Nighthawks, 7-2, and the Blizzard, 5-0, in AYSO Region 120 Under-12 Division boys soccer action. In the win over the Nighthawks, Brian Henriquez had five goals, with single tallies added by Parker Roth and Jose Perez Jr. Henriquez had two more goals in the win over the Blizzard, however the leading scorer for the Orange Crush was Perez Jr. with three goals. Andy Sussman led the defense for the Orange Crush, while goalies Mike Wolfe and Kyle Thorsness made numerous saves.

COSTA MESA - Jess Hellmich and Jaime Salas each scored two goals to lead the Arsenal, a boys under-14 soccer team to a 6-0 win over the Public Enemy in the AYSO Region 120 championships. Eric Scheafer and Junior Simental each added a goal for the Arsenal, who had lost to Public Enemy, 3-1, in a previous contest. Nikoli Carroll, Ryan Sanford, Chris Cifuentes and Jim Tallman controlled the game on both sides of the ball, while Chris Ray, Brett Molaskey, Sam Wall and Scott Markley also turned in solid all-around play.

AYSO REGION 97 Boys under 16 Newport 3, Tustin 2: The boys from Newport faced off against the top team from Tustin and shocked it with an upset Saturday. Newport was down 1-0 at the half, but rallied for the win. Kenny Sanchez and Brian Baca scored to tie the game. Austin Knott scored the game-winner with two minutes left in the game. Simon Hedrick played well in goal and Devin Hovis, Irving Torres, Luis Torres, Zac Buie and Raul Gomez played great defense.

The Corona del Mar Waves, a local girls' under-14 team won the OC Classic Soccer Tournament on Sunday. The team went undefeated in the tournament and won the title game, 4-1, over Diamond Bar. The girls were made up of mostly Corona del Mar Middle School and Mariners students. The championship team featured: Anna Hartog, Breena Foigelman, Elizabeth McKenzie, Emma Scott, Erika Wall, Fiona Palitz, Haley Hopkins, Hunter Gantos, Katie McCabe, Katherine Casey, Maddy Devarian, Sarah Lawson, Sierra Muhlhauser, Sina Schwenk-Mueller and Taylor Rosen.

A 3-0 halftime lead quickly ballooned to four unanswered second-half goals as the Costa Mesa Boys Under-14 APP team met Corona del Mar in pool play. Costa Mesa received goals from Kenneth Zich, Jose Perez, on an assist from Rigo Miranda, who scored in the second half on an assist from Trevor McDonald, who also scored when he headed a rebound off of Corona del Mar's goalkeeper, German Higadera on a cross from Luis Cozza and Blake Pinto. Corona del Mar didn't allow any fourth-quarter goals.

SOCCER AYSO Region 97 Girls under 14 The Green Lighting won their quarterfinal game, 3-2, on a shootout after a 3-3 tie in regulation Saturday in Area Q play. After two scoreless overtime periods, the game went to a shootout. Tamera Myers, Rochelle Bowlin and Paige Bell-Wheelan scored goals in the shootout for the Green Lightning. During regulation, Gigi Light, Monika Petersen and Bell-Wheelan scored. Megan Farley, Page Keys, Janet Zelpa, Bowlin and Myers attacked and passed up field all game long.

Orange Coast College nutrition major Lauriane Etienne was born in France but raised in India. The 20-year-old international student, who lives in Costa Mesa, recently completed her first semester at OCC. She's thoroughly enjoying her stay on Southern California's beautiful Orange Coast. "My first semester at OCC was great," she says. "I was able to maintain a 4.0 grade-point average. I love living in this area; it has so much to offer." Born in southern France, Lauriane moved with her family to India at the age of 1. She grew up speaking both French and English.

The Region 97 AYSO boys under-13 Newport-Mesa Infinity soccer team extended its winning streak to 11 games during the first round of League Cup play in the Coast Soccer League Sunday. Traveling to San Bernardino for two matches, the Infinity won their first game, 1-0, over Santa Clarita. The lone goal was scored by Austin Webster, courtesy of a pass from Erickson Klein. Zac Chocek blocked what would have been a certain goal to protect the win. In their second game of the day, the Infinity battled back to tie Chivas USA of Alta Loma.

With the score tied at one apiece in the second half, the Breakers' Christina Young scored on a penalty shot to put the AYSO Region 97 girls under-12 soccer team in the lead on the way to a 3-1 victory Saturday over the Bright Bombers. She scored again with two minutes remaining to put the game out of reach. Tempest Blaine scored the first goal of the game early on, but the Bombers quickly answered back with a breakaway goal. In the second half, defenders Sophie Leveque and Syndey Clayton made great throw-ins to forwards Robin Young and Rebecca Arnold to help set up Young's last shot.
