MURRIETA - Calvary Murrieta's star softball pitcher, senior Chelsie Keller, was feeling sick Tuesday morning. So was her batterymate, freshman catcher Sarah McWaters. At about 10:30 a.m. they delivered the bad news to Warriors Coach Celeste Ducharme. "I said, 'Don't go home, let's see how you do in warm-ups,'" Ducharme said. "It was one inning at a time. " Six innings was all it took for the home team in the CIF Southern Section Division 5 wild-card playoff game. Keller threw a no-hitter as the Warriors routed Estancia, 15-0, ending the Eagles' season.

COSTA MESA - Estancia High senior Ben Beck (3-1) pitched a no-hitter with eight strikeouts and three walks to lead the Eagles to an 18-0 Orange Coast League win over Saddleback Tuesday. Alex Chairez led Estancia (7-3, 3-1) at the plate, going five for five with five runs batted in and three runs with a triple and a double. UC Irvine sophomore Andrew Thurman, who produced the school's fifth no-hitter on Friday against Long Beach State, was named Big West Conference Pitcher of the Week and the National Player of the Week by Collegiate Baseball. Just six days after taking a no-hitter into the ninth inning against Cal State Fullerton, Thurman completed the feat against the Dirtbags at Blair Field. He struck out five, walked one and hit a batter. He threw 110 pitches, 67 for strikes, to post his first complete game.

IRVINE - The UC Irvine baseball team has yet to open any of its Big West Conference series on a Friday night this season. But for the first time in that stretch, they had a performance befitting a Friday-night starter on Saturday against visiting Cal State Fullerton. Sophomore right-hander Andrew Thurman took a no-hitter into the ninth inning of a 4-1 triumph as the No. 12-ranked Titans managed just one hit against the Anteaters, who came in on a three-game conference losing streak.

UC Irvine junior Matt Summers, who threw a no-hitter against Long Beach State Friday, has been named National Player of the Week by Collegiate Baseball, as well as Pitcher of the Week by the Big West Conference. Summers struck out five, walked one and faced just one more than the minimum to help UCI defeat the Dirtbags, 2-0, in the opener of their three-game conference series at UCI. Summers, in his first season as a full-time starter for the 'Eaters, is 10-2 with a 1.74 earned-run average.

IRVINE — Memorial Day on Monday traditionally marks the end of spring, but a celebration of Summer(s) occurred a few days early Friday night at UC Irvine's Anteater Ballpark. UCI junior Matt Summers tossed a no-hitter in a 2-0 Big West Conference win over Long Beach State to cap a dominant conference season in which he was 8-0 in Big West Conference series openers. Summers, struck out five, walked one, hit one batter and faced one over the minimum. He threw 105 pitches, 68 for strikes to produce the fourth no-hitter in school history.

BASEBALL Vanguard 8, The Master's 0 SANTA CLARITA — Junior Tony Peraza threw a no-hitter with six strikeouts and three walks for the visiting Lions in the Golden State Athletic Conference game Thursday. Jeremiah Mejia went two for four with three runs batted in, while Jerry Pena, Jacob Domingos, Tyson Leighton and Mario Romero also had two hits each for Vanguard (8-8, 4-2 in conference). The Master's is 12-5, 3-1. SOFTBALL Doubleheader COSTA MESA — Sophomore Katharine Jablonsky threw a two-hit shutout in Game 2 to help host Vanguard earn an 8-0 win and a nonconference split against Saint Thomas of Florida on Thursday.

Newport Beach resident Ryan Borquez pitched a no-hitter for the Bat Rays 10-and-under club baseball team Aug. 21 in San Clemente. Borquez, 9, the youngest player on the team, threw 64 pitches in six innings, walking one and hitting one batter in a 4-0 victory over the San Clemente Tritons. Alex Rosen and Tyler Flood both went two for three with one run batted in and one run scored for the Bat Rays. — From staff reports
