Paul Clinton Bob Siemon's moment of inspiration is finding its way onto the necks of U.S. Marines in Iraq. Siemon, a Newport Beach resident and former hippie, has begun manufacturing the "shield of faith," a pewter necklace and lapel pin that families of U.S. soldiers can mail to their loved ones in the Persian Gulf. Inspiration struck Siemon during a sleepless night in mid-January, after a conversation at a Riverside trade show with the mother of a soldier stationed in Iraq.

The 16th annual Guilds of the Center fashion extravaganza moved from daytime to evening this season. Chaired by Kathy Fleming , the party unfolded March 24 at the Westin South Coast Plaza hotel. The event began with a champagne reception on the very trendy Westin roof deck, followed by a très chic fashion show produced by Escada, and a filet of salmon dinner served by the Westin Hotel staff in the main ballroom. One of the major sponsors of the evening was Lugano Diamonds, represented by owners Idit and Moti Ferder as well as Lugano vice president Stuart Winston . This year, the Guilds of the Center celebrated the "kindness, generosity and impeccable style" of Newport philanthropist Zee Allred . Following a heartfelt speech by Allred praising the efforts of the entire community for decades of unselfish support of the performing arts in Orange County, Moti Ferder presented her with an exquisite 66-carat blue star sapphire and diamond necklace.

The agile and aggressive goalkeeper, sidelined during the team?s 1-6-2 start with a fractured left index finger, has helped the Eagles go 9-2-1 since.

Sometimes a trip is more than just a great escape. That's what happened to Kallie Dovel when she first traveled to Uganda in summer 2007. It was there that she saw what women were going through: little to no education, lack of health care, extreme poverty. But there was one thing they had: paper beads they made by hand and turned into jewelry. Unfortunately, there wasn't a market for them to sell the items. Dovel started thinking. She brought home a box of the Ugandan jewelry and showed it to friends and family, who were amazed.
