When waves break and you want to get further out, you've got to have a lot of arm strength to paddle through the waves." Carsen McBeath, 14 Las Vegas, Nev. "Just have fun." Birdie Crane, 10 Newport Beach "Never give up. Just always try your hardest."

Rooted in tradition, Catholicism is known for its reverence of the sacred and its historical customs. And through those cultural connections, St. John the Baptist Church has instituted the Traditional Latin Mass as a means to rekindle some of the more traditional aspects of the church. The Mass began on the first Sunday of Lent, Feb. 10, and continues every Sunday at 12:30 p.m. In an effort to comply with Pope Benedict XVI’s request to allow more individuals to become familiar with the Latin Mass, St. John the Baptist surveyed parishioners and the Mass was found to be popular.

But one Democratic candidate isn't buying the claim of Republican state Sen. Mimi Walters that she moved from her Laguna Niguel mansion into a small studio apartment in Irvine so she could run in the new 37 th  state Senate District. Democratic Senate candidate Steve Young, an attorney, has filed a lawsuit in Orange County Superior Court arguing that Walters does not legitimately live in the district so she should be taken off the ballot in the Nov. 6 election.
