Four first-half goals spearheaded the Costa Mesa Boys under-15 APP Plus soccer team from AYSO Region 120 as they went on to a 5-2 victory over Laguna Niguel Sunday. Luis Guerrero scored two goals as Nick Straubel and Luis Andrade each added single goals for Mesa in the first half. Jay Benny Quiroz added a goal in the second half as strong defense and offense was provided by Shawn Engmann, Francisco Estrada, Joshua Henriquez, Nick Juarez, Jordan Kalke, Juan Perez and Ryan Pfautz.

SANTA ANA – The Blue Note Bandit’s remarkable run is over, authorities said Friday. After a string of 15 bank robberies in Orange County during a two-and-a-half-month period, including in Costa Mesa, authorities on Wednesday arrested and booked David Andrew Camp, a 50-year-old unemployed salesman from Laguna Niguel, for allegedly committing the crimes. A team of FBI and Orange County Sheriff’s Department personnel arrested Camp on an unrelated warrant from Los Angeles.

Costa Mesa police are investigating a woman's allegations that when she was a teenager she was sexually abused by the choir director at St. Timothy's Parish in Laguna Niguel. The woman, who is now 28, alleges that the abuse started nearly 13 years ago when she was singing for the church's youth choir, her attorney John Manly said. She alleges that Albert L. Schildknecht, 56, of Laguna Niguel sexually assaulted her beginning when the woman was 15, Manly said. She first reported the abuse allegations to the Orange County Sheriff's Department, but now the investigation has widened, and Costa Mesa police have taken an interest.

SANTA ANA — The Blue Note Bandit’s remarkable run is over, authorities said Friday. After 15 bank robberies in Orange County during a two-and-a-half-month period, including at least two in Costa Mesa, authorities Wednesday arrested and booked David Andrew Camp, 50, an unemployed salesman from Laguna Niguel, for allegedly committing the crimes. Young Chang A Laguna Niguel man who was airlifted to the hospital after a head-on collision on the San Joaquin Hills toll road diedFriday night. Farzad Yaganeh, 42, of Laguna Niguel, died hours after an accident involving a total of five cars that also killed Steven McLin, 20, of Long Beach and Fereshteh Sadeghi, 42, of Laguna Niguel. McLin and Sadeghi died at the scene. California Highway Patrol officials said the collision happened early Friday evening when McLin drove his Ford Ranger onto a toll road offramp from Bonita Canyon Road.

NEWPORT’S RUN ENDS ALISO VIEJO — The Newport Beach American Little League 10-11 year-old All-Star team was eliminated from the District 55 tournament Tuesday after falling in a losers’ bracket semifinal, 4-0, to Laguna Niguel at Woodfield Park. Laguna Niguel struck early with a two-run home run in the bottom of the first, and added single runs in the third and fourth. Newport Beach threatened in the fifth, when Jake Hastings was hit by a pitch and Cameron Hook doubled down the third-base line.

A Costa Mesa man arrested on a warrant related to child molestation charges will be prosecuted in El Dorado County in Lake Tahoe, Costa Mesa police said Thursday. Costa Mesa police arrested Keith Hoover, 45, on Wednesday outside his apartment on West 19th Street on suspicion of sexual contact with a child, Costa Mesa police Sgt. Marty Carver said. The victim, a boy formerly of Laguna Niguel who now lives in South Lake Tahoe, told authorities in early December that Hoover had molested him, Lt. Marc Adams of the El Dorado County Sheriff’s department said.

An Irvine man who kidnapped and raped a child and molested two others was denied parole Tuesday, according to prosecutors. Drew David Lambert, 32, formerly of Irvine, was sentenced to 15 years to life in August 1996 and is serving his sentence at California Correctional Institute in Tehachapi. In a news release Tuesday, Orange County prosecutors said Lambert approached a 6-year-old girl in the children's section of a Laguna Niguel bookstore and used a child's book to lure her to the men's restroom, where he assaulted her. Lambert was 16 years old at the time.

The Costa Mesa-based Down Syndrome Assn. of Orange County has two full-time and one part-time paid staffers. The rest are volunteers. It is these volunteers whom parents like Lisa Piraino said they depend on to make the activities fulfilling. For years Piraino has had her daughter Karina, 14, in programs facilitated through the association. Karina has been participating in a therapeutic horseback riding class for three years, though she is taking a break right now. Kellie Perez, the association's director of community relations, said the association often recommends the J.F. Shea Therapeutic Riding Center in San Juan Capistrano, which is funded by donations, but there is also the Back Bay Therapeutic Riding Club in Newport Beach.

Velma C. Patterson was a resident of Costa Mesa from 1922 until Sept. 28, 2010. She was born in Orange on Feb. 4, 1911. Velma lived in her grandmother's boarding house, the Depot Park House in Orange from her birth until she moved to 22nd Street and Santa Ana Avenue in Harper, which is now Costa Mesa. She attended Costa Mesa Grammar School and Lathrop Intermediate School in Santa Ana. She was a child of the Depression and left school to help support her five younger brothers and sisters.

LAGUNA NIGUEL — For the second straight night, the Newport Beach American Little League All-Stars would have preferred to use a reset button after one inning in the District 55 tournament at Chapparosa Park. But, unlike Tuesday, when they recovered from a four-run first by opposing Newport Beach National to claim a 7-4 win, the only revisions on the scoreboard after a five-run first by designated host Rancho Niguel on Wednesday was a run by the winners. The result was a 6-0 verdict in the loser's bracket semifinal.

The man accused of being Orange County?s most prolific bank robber in years pleaded not guilty Monday to more than a dozen felonies. David Andrew Camp, 50, of Laguna Niguel, was charged with 14 counts of second-degree burglary after police arrested him last week thanks to a tip from family members. Police said Camp robbed 14 banks in Orange County, including two in Costa Mesa, between Nov. 30 and Feb. 9. He was dubbed the ?Blue Note Bandit? because during one of his first robberies, he handed the bank teller a note on blue paper demanding cash, authorities said.
