IRVINE - Orange Coast College sophomore Rob Williams pitched a complete-game shutout to lead the Pirates to their 10th straight win, a 4-0 Orange Empire Conference triumph over host Irvine Valley Tuesday. Williams, a right-handed pitcher who scattered 10 hits, was backed by a solid defense that helped him improve to 4-0 on the season. The Pirates, who had lost four out five before their current streak, improved to 24-7, 8-5 in the OEC. In the eighth inning, OCC sophomore second baseman Jake Garcia crushed a 3-1 pitch for a solo home run over the left field fence to provide the Pirates with momentum.

MEN’S BASKETBALL Orange Coast 86, Irvine Valley 83 IRVINE — Freshman Martin Whitmore scored a game-high 27 points to lead four Pirates in double figures in the Orange Empire Conference opener Friday at Irvine Valley. Whitmore made 10 of 15 field-goal attempts and also led the winners (8-12) with eight rebounds, six steals and three assists. Orange Coast College's baseball team absorbed a 16-2 Orange Empire Conference defeat to host Irvine Valley Tuesday as the winners piled up 23 hits, played errorless ball and scored six times in one inning, twice. Kyle Stanley, Manny Pedroza and Collin Stiltz all came up with doubles and Ryan Mathews had a solo home run in Coast's eight-hit attack. WOMEN'S BASKETBALL Irvine Valley 55, Orange Coast 54 IRVINE - Dayanara Armenta scored a game-high 23 points for the Pirates in the Orange Empire Conference game Friday. Jenna Arnett added 10 points and Michelle Angel had eight points and seven rebounds for OCC (9-10, 0-3 in conference). The Lasers' Amber Wharton hit the game-winner with 0.3 seconds left. She nailed a short jumper in the lane after retrieving a loose ball from her missed shot that was batted out. IVC is 14-7, 3-0. * MEN'S BASKETBALL Irvine Valley 66, Orange Coast 62 IRVINE - Jordan Pellum and Jo Jo Trinidad scored 12 points each for the Pirates in the Orange Empire Conference game Friday.
