It is telling that Jean Forbath, who lives in Mesa Verde, would demand that folks should give up their quality of life to provide more housing in Costa Mesa. ("Mailbag," June 22). She even goes so far as to imply that anything less would be sinful and selfish. This reader has trouble accepting the statement that finding room for everyone to live in Costa Mesa is a critical social issue. Please, Ms. Forbath, don't throw a guilt trip on your neighbors to fulfill your goals.

EVANS Negative comments from Daily Pilot columnists Steve Smith and Peter Buffa illustrate the lack of knowledge of many citizens regarding the recent U.S. Supreme Court decision banning student-led prayers at school events, such as football games and assemblies. Many people who question the ruling in Santa Fe Independent School District (Texas) vs. Doe do not understand the content of the U.S. Constitution's 1st Amendment and the legal status of public schools as instruments of the government.
