MEN'S TENNIS Vanguard 5, Westmont 2 INDIAN WELLS - Freshman Stefan Kilchhofer won in No. 1 singles and in No. 1 doubles with Roger Muri, helping the top-seeded Lions win the Golden State Athletic Conference tournament championship at Indian Wells Tennis Garden on Friday. Kilchhofer defeated Westmont's Tim Goranson, 6-4, 6-0. He and Muri beat Westmont's Tim Goranson and John Bertram, 8-3, in doubles action. Muri won in No. 2 singles as well for Vanguard (21-0), ranked No. 3 in the NAIA.

WOMEN'S WATER POLO UC Irvine 7, San Diego State 5 IRVINE - The No. 2-seeded Anteaters advanced to Sunday's Big West Conference Tournament final behind 13 saves from Jillian Yocum and two goals apiece from Michaela Pierandozzi and McKenna Mitchell on Saturday at UCI. UCI (21-8), which shared the conference regular-season crown with Hawaii (20-9), will meet the top-seeded Rainbow Wahine Sunday at 4:15 p.m. Hawaii defeated Long Beach State, 10-5, in the other semifinal Saturday.

MEN'S VOLLEYBALL Orange Coast def. Palomar COSTA MESA - Johannes Brink had a match-high 23 kills as the Pirates won the Pacific Coast Conference match, 22-25, 25-22, 25-22, 25-21, on Friday night. Cody Martin added 12 kills for OCC (10-5, 6-3 in conference), and Austin Bagby had 10. Scott Enos had a team-high eight digs, and Brendan Duff dished out 45 assists. Nick Supple led Palomar (2-14, 1-8) with 10 kills. OCC plays at Grossmont on Wednesday. * MEN'S TENNIS Vanguard 9, Arizona Christian 0 COSTA MESA - Stefan Kilchhofer and Daymon Johnson each won in singles and combined to win at No. 1 doubles for the Lions in Friday's Golden State Athletic Conference match at Costa Mesa Tennis Center.

The UC Irvine women's tennis team notched its first shutout of the season and won its fourth straight match with a 7-0 Big West Conference decision over visiting UC Riverside Friday. Tiffany Chang, one of two UCI seniors playing in their final home match, came back from a 5-1 deficit in the second set to defeat Casey Cross, 7-6 (6), and gain the singles points. Chang, 16-7 in singles this season, held serve to tie Cross, 6-6, before claiming the tiebreaker, 8-6. Anna Bentzer, ranked 102nd in the nation in singles who has been named Big West Athlete of the Week three times, improved to 15-3 this season after defeating Michelle Beyronneau, 6-1, 6-1. Paul Clinton Although home sales dropped radically in January, median home values in the area continued to rise steeply, with Newport Beach homes selling among the state's priciest cities. In the California Assn. of Realtors' January median-price report, Newport Beach again placed among the state's top 10 for sale prices. Orange County's ritziest city placed No. 4, with $755,000, statewide. Manhattan Beach, at $918,500, placed at the top of the list in mid-point value homes sold during the month.

The UC Irvine men's tennis team enters today's 9 a.m. semifinal of the Big West Conference Championship — against UC Santa Barbara at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden — with a golden opportunity to seize success. The Anteaters' senior No. 1 singles player, Aaron Yovan, knows all about such a proposition. Yovan, who starred at University High in Irvine, transferred from UCLA for his senior season and, first-year UCI Coach Trevor Kronemann said, he has made the most of his fresh start and last chance as a collegian.

BASEBALL Doubleheader COSTA MESA - Host Vanguard University won the first game, but dropped the second to get a Golden State Athletic Conference split on Friday. Andrew Young hit a walk-off home run in the 11th inning to key a 3-2 win in Game 1. Young went three for four and scored twice for the winners. Gabe Garcia allowed just four hits in 10 innings, but Tucker Woods earned the win with a scoreless inning of relief to improve to 5-2. Westmont scored three in the eighth inning of Game 2, which was scheduled for seven innings, to collect a 6-3 win. Young had one hit and drove in two runs for the Lions (23-19, 13-17 in conference)

WOMEN’S TENNIS UC Irvine 4, UC Santa Barbara 3 INDIAN WELLS — The No. 3-seeded Anteaters split six singles matches, but won two of three sets to claim the doubles point and upset the No. 2-seeded Gauchos in the semifinals of the Big West Conference Championships Saturday at Indian Wells Tennis Garden. Courtney Byron and Kristina Smith won at No. 1 and No. 6 singles, respectively, then teamed to win at No. 2 doubles for UCI (12-10). Becka Kwan (No. 5 singles)
