Working with Dallas County district attorney investigators, UCI police were able to track down a man who is suspected in an identity theft case that involved more than 160 students at the university, officials said Friday. In addition, the investigation may have led to the Internal Revenue Service uncovering a large criminal ring of identity theft that may have affected hundreds of people across the nation. Michael Tyrone Thomas, 27, of Fort Worth, Texas, was arrested at his home Tuesday on a warrant for one count of fraudulent identity theft involving UCI graduate and medical students, UCI Police Chief Paul Henisey said.
