Richard Dunn While Costa Mesa High's football team might be known for its smashmouth offense, there was little grunt or brawn on senior Nate Hunter's game-winning 26-yard field goal Friday night with 11 seconds left as Coach Dave Perkins' Mustangs rallied to defeat host Westminster, 11-10, in an edge-of-your-seat Golden West League game. "It's a huge win," said Hunter, mobbed by his teammates after booting a perfect kick through the uprights to give Costa Mesa its first lead.

Olivia Johnson was 30,000-plus feet in the air when she first read the script for "Rest. " Tears coursed down her cheeks as she learned about dementia patient Gerald and his wife, Etta, en route to San Francisco for Thanksgiving. The story hit too close to home for the Tustin Hills resident and South Coast Repertory board member, whose mother was struggling with the same affliction and, like the play's protagonist, lived in a senior center. Alice Gedikian was weeks away from her 100th birthday, and her health was rapidly declining.

The 7-week-old male puppy named Hunter was reported trapped at 20 Vincennes at 6:53 p.m., according to a news release from the Newport Beach Fire Department. This Halloween, I got a treat. It's not every day a girl walks into an interview with an up-and-coming local band and finds out that their music actually rocks. Or at least the song I heard, "Eastbay," did. Redline 5 could be the next band to make it big out of Newport Beach. At least that's what this gregarious group of five is working toward. Tonight, the band plays its first gig at the Galaxy in Santa Ana at a CD release party for rockers Something Corporate.

A father and son from Orange County have both died after their hunting trip to New Mexico went tragically awry last month. The son, Steve Lockhart, 43, of Costa Mesa, was separated from the hunting party in Gila National Forest about midnight Oct. 20, according to New Mexico law enforcement officials. Lockhart died Sunday, shortly after he was found alive a week after he disappeared. Officials had suspended the search for Lockhart days earlier, calling off the air and ground searches, which involved dozens of personnel, according to New Mexico State Police.
