The first play from scrimmage gave an indication of what type of Saturday night it would be for Orange Coast College, and for Golden West. The Rustlers began with a trick play - a double pass - as quarterback Chris d'Entremont threw a backward pass to receiver Luke Pastell, who threw to a wide-open Nik Little for a 74-yard touchdown. It spelled doom for OCC. The Rustlers dominated on offense and defense in their 52-7 Southern Conference victory that gave them the Bell for the fourth straight year at OCC. Golden West, the home team in the 46th edition of the Battle for the Bell, used the first play from scrimmage to gain control.

When is too much of a good thing just that? Orange Coast College men's volleyball coach Travis Turner was not afraid to admit that after losing just four sets during a 10-0 start, it was time for a little adversity. So, when sophomore starting outside hitter Ty Hutchins forgot his jersey on a Pacific Coast Conference road trip to Grossmont last week, Turner elected to let one of his top offensive weapons sit out, rather than hand over the extra jersey he always brings along for just such instances.

HUNTINGTON BEACH - A complete team effort sparked the Orange Coast College women's volleyball team to its biggest win of the season in its first true test Friday, in a 25-18, 25-21, 25-23 statement victory at Golden West College. The Pirates' bounty for plundering the Rustlers in three straight games to finish off the first half of Orange Empire Conference play? OCC is all alone in first place atop the conference at 7-0 (13-0 overall), extending its streak of sets won to 20 that dates to Sept.

Orange Coast College will change conference alignments in football for the 2012 and 2013 seasons, trading its current six-team alignment for a seven-team grouping that features teams that have traditionally had more success. The Pirates, who competed in the Central Division East Conference the last two seasons, will shift to the National Division Southern Conference. They will be joined by former East Conference members Golden West and Santa Ana, as well as Orange County rivals Saddleback and Fullerton, and San Diego County representatives Grossmont and Palomar.
