COSTA MESA - Orange Coast College dropped a 16-6 Orange Empire Conference baseball decision Thursday as Golden West unloaded with an 11-run sixth-inning on the loser's diamond. Adam Anderson was 3 for 3 with two runs scored, and Jason Reuss was 3 for 4 with two runs and two RBIs, but that was about it for OCC positives. Coast falls to 11-20, 5-13 in the OEC. CYPRESS - Orange Coast College's mens water polo team went 2-2 at the Cypress Invitational, good enough for first place in its division. On Saturday, the Pirates defeated Rio Hondo, 9-5, to advance to the championship bracket. There, they lost to Golden West, 7-5, despite an outstanding defensive effort by OCC. HUNTINGTON BEACH - Bullying has become a cause celebre, with stereotypical notions of intimidating actions and strong-arm tactics catching fire from society at large. But the sanctity of using physical and mental toughness as a means of showing superiority is not only protected, but celebrated in athletic competition. So it is that the Orange Coast College men's volleyball team found itself in position to look up to rival Golden West, after experiencing the equivalent of being knocked to the pavement, posterior first.

HUNTINGTON BEACH - Despite playing five-on-four in the final 4:37, the Orange Coast College men's basketball team could not come back and lost, 95-74, to rival Golden West, in Orange Empire Conference action Friday. The Rustlers (4-18, 1-7 in the OEC) played their best game of the season, shooting a season-high 58%, even though three of their seven players fouled out. Golden West, which led 78-61 with four players, outscored the Pirates, 17-13 in the final 4:37.

COSTA MESA -- Orange Coast College survived a scare in Orange Empire Conference play, rallying in the second half to defeat Golden West, 65-58, on Wednesday night. The Pirates (25-4, 9-2 in conference) entered the game ranked No. 4 in Southern California and No. 7 in the state. Golden West (2-22, 0-11) had just two wins coming into Wednesday night's game. The Rustlers shocked the home team in the first half, taking a 35-31 lead at the break. Orange Coast responded by shooting 48.1% from the field and holding Golden West to seven second-half baskets.
