MEN’S BASKETBALL Point Loma Nazarene 78, Vanguard 73 SAN DIEGO — Junior guard Andrew Ellis came off the bench for team-highs of 16 points and four assists, but the Lions dropped the Golden State Athletic Conference game Tuesday at Point Loma. Senior center Arvydas Vaitiekus added 13 points and nine rebounds for Vanguard (11-5, 5-3 in conference). SANTA BARBARA -- Vanguard University took sole possession of third place in the Golden State Athletic Conference with a 79-74 victory over Westmont College in men's basketball Tuesday night. The Lions (17-9, 11-5 in conference) entered the game tied with the Warriors for third place. Vanguard took a six-point lead at halftime and extended it to as many as 16 points. Horace Wormely played all 40 minutes and scored a team-high 19 points, adding six rebounds, five assists and three steals.

COSTA MESA -- Horace Wormely had 21 points, seven assists and six rebounds as Vanguard University rallied for a 77-70 win over The Master's College in a Golden State Athletic Conference men's basketball game Saturday night. The Lions (8-7, 2-3 in conference) trailed by 10 points before rallying early in the second half. Levi Seekins' jumper with 4:14 remaining in the second half put Vanguard up for good. Wormely made 7 of 10 shots from the field, including 3 of his 6 three-point tries.

AZUSA -- Levi Seekins made a pair of three-pointers in overtime as Vanguard held on to win a Golden State Athletic Conference men's basketball game, 81-80, over Azusa Pacific on Tuesday. It was Vanguard's second overtime win in its last three games. Seekins' three-pointer with 1:21 remaining in the extra period put the Lions (12-8, 6-4 in conference) up by one point. Azusa Pacific had chances to tie or go ahead, but missed two shots and a free throw in the final seconds. Seekins, who sent the game into overtime with a layup with one second remaining in regulation, finished with a game-high 28 points.

RIVERSIDE -- Levi Seekins scored all nine of Vanguard's points in the second overtime and made the game-saving steal in a 73-71 victory over Cal Baptist in a Golden State Athletic Conference men's basketball game Thursday. Seekins finished with 28 points and nine rebounds for the Lions, putting them ahead for good on a jumper in the paint with 1:20 remaining. He added a free throw with eight seconds left and then stole the ball from Cal Baptist's Junior Denson in the final seconds.

COSTA MESA - The Vanguard University women's basketball team took care of visiting Cal Baptist, 69-53, in Golden State Athletic Conference action Thursday night. Becki Huddle led the Lions (14-6, 7-4 in conference) with 18 points, six rebounds and six assists, while Rachel Fikse added 16 points and six rebounds. In a balanced attack, Kelly Boeke contributed 14 points and eight rebounds, while Laura Lee added 12 points. Kemmy Burgess and Brandon Cablay each chipped in 11 points for the Lions (6-18, 2-11 in conference). B.J Foster led the Crusaders (14-9, 7-6) with 17 points. COSTA MESA - The Vanguard University baseball team tightened its grip on the fourth and final playoff spot in the Golden State Athletic Conference with an 8-0 win over visiting Concordia. The Lions (28-19, 15-13 in conference) jumped out to a 6-0 first-inning lead and never looked back. Anthony Walker pitched seven strong innings to improve his record to 9-3.
