There’s more than one way to help the environment, and this Sunday, beers, bikinis and music will come together to do just that. In what could make for a marathon day of fun, the nonprofit Surfrider Foundation is joining up with popular clothing and sports companies and the Chronic Cantina to host a fundraiser to help the nonprofit keep our oceans clean. “The owners, we love doing these events,” said Keith Scheinberg, co-owner of the Chronic Cantina in Costa Mesa’s Triangle Square.

At Sutra Lounge in Costa Mesa tonight, Derick Alexander isn’t going to be working the door as a bouncer like he has many Fridays. Instead he’ll be directing cheerleaders, overseeing a fashion show and monitoring every piece of production while he’s filming the pilot for a reality TV show created by his sister Roxanne Alexander-Pringle. “Pro Cheer Danz” is a potential competition reality show that focuses on seven cheerleaders graded for 13 weeks by their acting, dancing, modeling and cheering ability as producers search for a breakout star.

They called it “a night of hope.” The third annual Pink Tie Ball in Orange County sponsored by the Susan G. Komen for the Cure breast cancer support group pulled out all the stops, raising $250,000 for local breast health services. More than 400 guests converged upon Costa Mesa’s Noguchi Gardens at the Pacific Arts Plaza to promote the “power of pink.” It is important to note the party was made possible by some 100 volunteers working with Komen Orange County Executive Director Lisa Wolter Lisa Wolter . Chairwomen of the evening were Marica Pendjer, Analisa Albert, and Aletha Anderson . Aletha with her husband, Chris Anderson , were honored guests of the evening, with additional special recognition paid to Bette and Wylie Aitken for their unwavering support.

High School Students Put on Event to Raise Money for Youth Camps SANTA ANA, Calif. ? Student volunteers affiliated with the Orange County Chapter of the American Red Cross hosted their 3rd annual Rock 'N Runway fundraiser, Saturday, March 21 at WISEplace in Santa Ana. Five-hundred youth attended the event, which doubled the event size from the previous year. Youth ages 12-18 were invited to attend the event and rock out to three awesome local bands that contended for a gift certificate to Guitar Center in a Battle of the Bands.

World surfing champion Sunny Garcia will join other professional surfers, environmental activists and an expected 2,000 guests at a benefit for the Surfrider Foundation’s Newport Beach chapter Sunday, according to event organizer Keith Scheinberg. The gathering will take place at Triangle Square in Costa Mesa, centered on Scheinberg’s restaurant Chronic Cantina. Sponsor tents will be set up in the courtyard, and live rock bands and DJs will perform. The Surfrider Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the environmental protection of oceans and beaches, plans to use the event to garner support for its Save Trestles campaign, which seeks to stop the extension of the 241 toll road through the environmental preserve.
