Costa Mesa-based Emulex Corp., a company specializing in converged networking solutions, has named industry veteran Jimmy Yam as the new vice president of sales for the Asia Pacific region. "I am thrilled to extend Emulex's presence in the Asia Pacific, which is one of the fastest growing regions for IT spending," Yam said in a prepared statement. He has 25 years of experience in finance, management, marketing and sales in the region's information technology industry, according to a news release from Emulex.

Paul Clinton Data storage company Emulex Corp. had a mixed day Thursday, reporting a breakeven quarter to beat Wall Street's expectations by a penny per share. The company also agreed to pay out $39.5 million to settle a class-action lawsuit. The company, based in the city since the early 1970s, said it was settling a shareholder lawsuit filed in 2001 in response to comments by company executives during a January 2001 conference call about earnings.

Lolita Harper COSTA MESA -- The mystery tenant for the industrial portion of the Home Ranch project was unveiled Tuesday when officials from Emulex confirmed they have signed a letter of intent to occupy a piece of the former lima bean farm. President and Chief Executive Paul Folino said the company has given preliminary confirmation to C.J. Segerstrom & Sons to move into the industrial portion of the project if it is approved in its current form.

McCluney takes the place of longtime chief executive Paul Folino, who will move to become the executive chairman of the board of directors. Folino has been a household name in the community for his work with the Orange County Performing Arts Center and as chairman of the New Majority — Orange County, a Republican organization and a major contributor to Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.

NEWPORT BEACH — Just as Bruce Lietzke sank a birdie on No. 18 at Newport Beach Country Club, 12 children in the Emulex hospitality suite cheered. Some were amazed. “Wow,” a little boy said. The children were from the Tiger Woods Learning Center in Anaheim and were guests of Emulex, the networking solutions company based in Costa Mesa. “We got together as a team [to come up with the idea],” said Jeff Hoogenboom, senior vice president of worldwide sales and a Corona del Mar resident.

Emulex appoints Yoost as director Costa Mesa data storage company Emulex Corp. announced the appointment of Dean A. Yoost to the firm's board of directors Thursday. Yoost's experience includes his work as the managing partner of the Orange County office of accounting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers. Yoost was appointed to that firm's global board in 2001, an Emulex release stated. He earned a master's degree in business taxation from the University of Minnesota and a master's degree in business administration from Minnesota State University, Mankato.

Emulex completes merger with Vixel Data storage company Emulex Corp. announced it has completed its acquisition of Vixel Corporation. Emulex offered $10 per share and merged a wholly owned subsidiary into Vixel. Vixel shares are no longer listed on the NASDAQ exchange. Emulex is the top provider of hot bus adapters, sophisticated devices that help companies manage massive flows of information. Vixel, based in Bothell, Wash., produced embedded switches, which increase data storage by allowing more drives to be connected than is possible with other devices.

Emulex has good news from its quarter profits A 16% revenue increase from sales of its host bus adapters drove a solidly profitable quarter, Emulex Corp. announced Thursday. The Costa Mesa technology company, which provides adapters used in data storage, reported a strong reversal from the same quarter a year ago. Emulex reported net income of $18.4 million, or 22 cents, compared to a loss of $11.4 million, or 14 cents, a year ago. "We believe Emulex is in a newly strengthened position to expand our presence in upcoming quarters," said Paul Folino, the company's chairman and chief executive.

Lang Lang isn't a pianist to suit all tastes. I suppose no musician is, but in any case, there were a few times when he didn't suit mine last week. The 30-year-old Chinese virtuoso made a single stop in Costa Mesa on Sept. 27. He played with the Pacific Symphony in the Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall. As conductor Carl St.Clair noted, he took on not one, but two concertos. Impressive indeed, no matter how you square it. But the manner in which this superstar - a superstar by classical world standards, that is - played Liszt's Piano Concerto No. 1 and Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5, the lauded "Emperor," surely got those of us thinking who are used to these pieces (especially the Beethoven)

Lolita Harper Emulex officials gained unanimous City Council endorsement Monday night for plans that will ultimately allow them to cultivate high-tech components on a portion of the lima bean fields that produced a Segerstrom family dynasty. Emulex, which specializes in components that allow computers to store growing amounts of data, presented its master plan for a campus-like corporate command center on the northwest portion of the Home Ranch site.
