Corona del Mar High School students didn't walk home from Hurley's Walk the Walk championship empty-handed. CdM won the men's Head-to-Toe Design Challenge at the fifth annual "Project Runway"-esque fashion show on the beach Thursday during the U.S. Open of Surfing in Huntington Beach. "I'm really proud of my team," said soon-to-be senior Krissy Zahabi, 16, the show's co-producer and co-director. "They did such a good job. " The school, which won Walk the Walk last year, competed in the national competition against four other schools that made it to the finals.

MEN'S BASKETBALL UC Irvine 77, UT Arlington 70 ARLINGTON, Texas — Five Anteaters scored in double figures and UCI shot 66.7% percent from the field in the second half en route to a BracketBusters win at UT Arlington Saturday. Senior Adam Folker and sophomore Will Davis II scored 16 points each, seniors Michael Wilder and Daman Starring recorded 14 and 13 points, respectively, and junior Chris McNealy added 12 as UCI won its fourth straight game and sixth in the last eight.

The Newport Beach City Council will discuss a possible city ban on smoking in public places at a 4 p.m. study session Tuesday. The Newport Beach Environmental Quality Affairs Committee recommended in February that the City Council consider banning smoking in public places like parks and outdoor dining areas. “I’m not a smoker, and I don’t appreciate other people smoking around me, but there are a certain amount of civil liberties that comes into question,” Councilman Steve Rosansky said.

NEWPORT BEACH - Dodo Cheney (La Jolla), the all-time winningest player in United States Tennis Association history with over 300 gold balls, won her sixth doubles title in six years Friday at the U.S. National Senior Women's Hard Court Championships at the Newport Beach Tennis Club. Cheney and partner Lucy Dettmer (Palo Alto) defeated Ellie Harbula (Sylmar) and Carolyn Henry in a hard-fought 75s final, 1-6, 7-5, 7-5. Three other finals are scheduled for today, with action starting at 9 a.m. In the 65 singles, defending champion Ada Cowan (Palo Alto)
