A public service is scheduled for a Newport Beach doctor who was killed while riding her bike along Newport Coast Drive, according to Greater Newport Physicians. The public celebration of life for Dr. Catherine "Kit" Campion Ritz is set for 1 p.m. Oct. 6 at Mariners Church Community Center, said Amanda Weig, Greater Newport Physicians' director of marketing and public relations. Mariners Church is at 5001 Newport Coast Drive in Irvine. Family members of Campion Ritz have asked that in lieu of flowers, people donate to the Semper Fi Fund, Casa Teresa, Wounded Warrior Project or St. Kieran Catholic School in El Cajon, Weig said.

Nikola Ilich and Jack Plummer scored unassisted goals for Vanguard, the latter giving the No. 22-ranked Lions (12-5, 6-2 in conference) a 2-1 lead. San Diego Christian (3-11-1, 1-7) tied it in the 78th minute, before O'Brien converted an assist by Edgar Hernandez.

BASEBALL UC Irvine 7, San Diego State (10 innings) SAN DIEGO — An error that led to an unearned run in the ninth inning cost senior Brian Hernandez his first collegiate save, but the Anteaters scored four in the 10th to give Hernandez his first collegiate win in nonconference action Tuesday. Junior Jordan Fox paced a nine-hit attack for the visitors (4-0), going two for five. Tommy Reyes drove in two runs, while Hernandez, Drew Hillman and Ronnie Shaeffer added single RBIs for the winners.

Corona del Mar High School students didn't walk home from Hurley's Walk the Walk championship empty-handed. CdM won the men's Head-to-Toe Design Challenge at the fifth annual "Project Runway"-esque fashion show on the beach Thursday during the U.S. Open of Surfing in Huntington Beach. "I'm really proud of my team," said soon-to-be senior Krissy Zahabi, 16, the show's co-producer and co-director. "They did such a good job. " The school, which won Walk the Walk last year, competed in the national competition against four other schools that made it to the finals.
