Hurley, the Costa Mesa-based brand rooted in surf-and-skate culture, is bringing a little counterculture spirit — and its covetable new collaboration with heritage brand Pendleton — to Glendale. The sporty label has launched a laid-back pop-up shop inside an empty storefront at the Americana at Brand shopping center. The ephemeral shop features Hurley's premium men's and women's collections for holiday, a wall-sized denim display, a smattering of kids' items and pieces from Hurley's recent collaboration with Weezer.

Peek…Aren’t You Curious just opened its first Orange County store at Fashion Island. It specializes in simple and sophisticated children’s apparel in size newborns through age 10. Peek celebrates its grand opening Thursday with treats, refreshments and easels displayed for painting. A percentage of the proceeds from that day’s sales go toward Art & Creativity for Healing, an organization specializing in therapeutic art programs for children. Peek clothes are functional, easily mixed and matched, and designed to appeal to children as well as please a parent’s sense of style.

Diesel recently opened at South Coast Plaza as part of a major national expansion that has witnessed the opening of boutiques in Beverly Hills and Honolulu. The cutting-edge store features men's and women's contemporary clothing, along with Diesel designed sunglasses, footwear, bags, fragrance and a new line of watches that they are calling TimeFrames. Diesel's fall/winter 2001-02 collection combines the look of military regalia with its own unique inspiration that emanates "new age exploration of vibrant deep-sea flora playing against old-fashioned forms, prints, labels and patches."

You can take home a lovable pet at Three Dog Bakery's Furr Therapy Adopt a Pet event from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. The bakery works with local rescue groups, including All Retriever Rescue, Modjeska Canyon Rescue, Newport Beach Animal Shelter and Hearts for Hounds. We await South Coast Plaza's new Bloomingdale's store, which opens at 9 a.m. Friday. Attend the ribbon-cutting event at 8:30 a.m.(second-level interior entrance) — the first 100 guests receive a Little Brown Bag breakfast. One super-lucky guest will receive a $1,000 gift card to the store. The three-level store features a glass facade that glows at night, two four-star restaurants opening this fall, and delectable fashion boutiques in the store, including Jimmy Choo, Armani Collezioni and Louis Vuitton.
