-- Sue Doyle A Costa Mesa man remained in critical condition Monday after he was hit by a car while riding his bicycle Sunday. Carl Leon McConnell, 49, who sustained major head injuries, is being treated in the intensive care unit at Santa Ana's Western Medical Center. According to police reports, McConnell rode his bike through a stop sign on Congress Street at 11:41 a.m. Sunday and was struck by a car driven by Elijah Michael Justice, 19, of Costa Mesa.

Sue Doyle COSTA MESA -- A Costa Mesa man was arrested Thursday on suspicion of murder in connection with a Huntington Park methamphetamine lab explosion Wednesday that left one man dead. Huntington Park police, decked out in full riot gear, stormed through a neighborhood in the 800 block of Congress Street with an armored vehicle and arrested Juan Sandoval, 24. Police said they suspect Sandoval had a hand in the death of an unidentified 21-year-old man who died in a hospital early Thursday after his entire body was severely burned in an explosion Wednesday at a Huntington Park apartment complex.

-- Alex Coolman A Costa Mesa man was sentenced to 15 years and four months in state prison Wednesday for his role in a drug lab explosion that killed a teenager in Huntington Park. Jorge Chavez, 24, also known as Juan Sandoval, was sentenced in Los Angeles Superior Court for renting a Marbrisa Avenue apartment in which a methamphetamine lab exploded May 17. The accident fatally burned 17-year-old Marcos Perez, who was in the apartment at the time.
