MEN'S VOLLEYBALL UC Irvine def. Beijing IRVINE — The host Anteaters swept the exhibition match, 25-22, 25-15, 29-27, in the opening round of the Irvine International tournament at Crawford Court. A strong serving performance helped UCI earn just its second victory in the third year of the tournament. UCI used back-to-back aces by sophomore setter Daniel Stork to go ahead, 22-20, to take control of the opening game. UCI led, 4-0, and 19-8 in the second set, then outlasted the Chinese team in the final set. UCI meets a team from Japan on Tuesday at 5 p.m. WOMEN'S SOCCER UC Irvine 3, San Diego 2 SAN DIEGO — Freshman Cami Privett scored twice and Natalia Ledezma added a goal for the visiting Anteaters in the nonconference game Sunday.

CoCo Goodson, a former UC Irvine women's soccer player, was drafted once again on Thursday as the National Women's Soccer League held its inaugural draft. Goodson went in the third round of the supplemental draft to Sky Blue FC and was the first of two Big West Conference players drafted. Goodson, a year removed from UC Irvine, was drafted following the 2011 season going 12th overall to the Philadelphia Independence in what was the Women's Professional Soccer league. The league fell apart before the season could commence, and Goodson would catch on with Dutch club FC Twente joining 'Eater alum Danielle de Seriere.

UC Irvine freshman Jennifer Randazzo made seven saves and withstood a 21-shot barrage and senior forward Lexi Kopf scored in the eighth minute to lead the then-No. 17-ranked Anteaters to a 1-0 win over the then-No. 11-ranked host in the finale of the Teas A&M Invitational Sunday in College Station. Randazzo, who had four saves in a 2-1 win over Texas-San Antonio on Friday, was named Defensive Player of the Week in the Big West Conference. Kopf, who had two goals in UCI's two tournament wins, is the conference's Offensive Player of the Week.

Former Costa Mesa High and Orange Coast College baseball standout has a big weekend ahead at Cal State Fullerton. Brent Mayne, a product of Costa Mesa High and Orange Coast College who played 15 seasons of major league baseball, will be inducted into the Cal State Fullerton Athletics Hall of Fame on Saturday at the Titan Student Union. Mayne, a catcher, played two seasons at Fullerton, earning second-team All-American honors as a sophomore in 1988. He was a two-time first-team All-Big West Conference performer.

IRVINE — Despite a 19-2-2 record that includes the program's first Big West Conference regular-season title, the consensus believed that UC Irvine was still peering from behind the curtain that led to the national women's soccer stage. But after posting a 2-0 second-round victory over visiting Wake Forest on Sunday, the Anteaters, arguably still pinching themselves from earning the program's first NCAA Tournament invitation, are hardly blushing under the glare of an increasingly brilliant spotlight.

UC Irvine junior CoCo Goodson has been named first-team All-American by the National Soccer Coaches Assn. of America. Anteaters' senior Tanya Taylor is a third-team honoree. The duo are the first women's soccer players in the 27-year history of the program to earn All-American recognition. Goodson, a transfer from Texas, was the Big West Conference Defender of the Year after scoring nine goals, second-best among conference players, and helping the regular-season conference champions (19-3-2)

Junior defender CoCo Goodson and senior goalkeeper Danielle de Seriere, who helped the UC Irvine women's soccer team clinch the program's first Big West Conference title, have been named conference players of the week. Goodson, who scored two game-winning goals in a pair of 1-0 wins over Big West rivals UC Riverside (Sunday) and Long Beach State (Thursday), is Offensive Player of the Week. She scored in the 43rd minute at Long Beach State and found the net for the sixth time this season in the 52nd minute against the visiting Highlanders.

UC Irvine senior women's soccer defender CoCo Goodson has been named second-team All-American by the National Soccer Coaches Assn. of America. Goodson, a two-time All-American, earned first-team honors as a junior when she made her UCI debut after transferring from the University of Texas. Goodson, a center defender, helped UCI produce eight shutouts and allow just 20 goals in 21 games. She had three goals and five assists and was known for the velocity with which she booted on free kicks.

CoCo Goodson was named the Big West Conference Defender of the Year for the second year in a row and led five from the UC Irvine women's soccer team who earned first-team honors. The Anteaters matched last year's All-Big West team by having seven selected in 2011 as well. UCI's Cami Privett was named Big West Freshman of the Year. Goodson has scored three goals and assisted on five others. She manned the backline with fellow defender and first-team All-Big West member Sarah Devine, allowing just 18 goals in 20 matches.

IRVINE - A lengthy individual run that UC Irvine women's soccer coach Scott Juniper said he had been waiting for all season helped deliver a championship rematch the Anteaters have been longing for since last November. UCI senior outside defender Amanda Hardeman sprinted most of the length of the field to be in position to score the game-winning goal in a 1-0 triumph over visiting UC Davis in the semifinals of the Big West Conference Tournament on Wednesday night. WOMEN'S SOCCER UC Irvine 4, Cal State Northridge 0 NORTHRIDGE — Sophomore UCLA transfer Natalia Ledezma posted a hat trick to pace the Anteaters in the Big West Conference clash Sunday. In her last three matches, Ledezma has seven goals and two assists. Jennifer Randazzo had two saves to post the shutout and UCI (12-3-2, 5-1-1 in conference), on a five-game winning streak, garnered assists by Dana Sanderlin, Sarah Devine and CoCo Goodson. UCI, in first place in the Big West, finishes its regular season on Sunday at home against UC Riverside.

IRVINE - A two-game losing streak was nothing a little Kopf medicine could not cure for the UC Irvine women's soccer team Thursday night. The Anteaters, ranked No. 11 in the nation just two weeks ago, bounced back from a 20-day winless spell by handling Portland, once ranked No. 4 this season, 3-1, in a nonconference game in front of a record-home crowd of 1,611. Senior forward Lexi Kopf (pronounced "cough") scored the first two goals of the game to help the No. 23-ranked hosts overcome a shaky start and assume total command of the game.

IRVINE - The newly created decorative UC Irvine scarves were flying high, as they do around the world, following a victorious performance by the Anteaters' unbeaten women's soccer team Friday night at Anteater Stadium. But it was forwards Natalia Ledezma and Lexi Kopf who flew first on the field, to make possible a 2-1, come-from-behind triumph over nonconference visitor Hawaii, that helps set the stage for a monumental road trip next weekend. Ledezma, a sophomore transfer from UCLA, bolted past a Hawaii defender, then darted around a charging keeper to even the score in the 53rd minute.
