Deepa Bharath A 38-year-old Newport Beach man pleaded guilty on Monday to one count of attempting to receive a videotape that contained child pornography, officials said. Daniel T. Flynn worked as a teacher for the Irvine Unified School District at UC Irvine's Child Development Center, which houses the program for children suffering from attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Flynn is scheduled to be sentenced on March 15, when he can get as much as 15 years in federal prison, said Asst.

A former Corona del Mar High School teacher is scheduled to be arraigned today on charges he molested two young girls between 1997 and 2001. Prosecutors said Mathew Macul Fahey, 47, from Aliso Viejo molested an 8-year-old girl who was a relative of his then-live-in girlfriend in 1997 and an 11-year-old girl he met while walking his dog in Laguna Beach in 2001. Police said Fahey charmed the 11-year-old by saying she was pretty enough to be a model and claiming he was a photographer.

NEWPORT BEACH — A Costa Mesa man who had sex with underage girls he met through social networking sites received a nine-year prison sentence Tuesday at the Harbor Justice Center. Richard Alan Chaney, 25, had pleaded guilty to luring a child with intent to commit a crime, oral copulation on a person under 16 years old, and sexual penetration and oral copulation of an unconscious person as part of a plea agreement with prosecutors. He will be required to register as a sex offender.

A convicted child molester from Costa Mesa is facing federal charges in Florida for allegedly crossing state lines with an underage girl to have sex with her and for allegedly possessing child pornography. The U.S. attorney’s office in Miami on Thursday charged George Joseph England, 65, according to a federal criminal complaint released Friday. The new charges ensure that he won’t be released from prison, as was scheduled for Friday. Instead, England will be transferred to a federal prison in Florida from Corcoran State Prison, near Fresno, where his three-year term on a previous conviction was set to expire Friday.

Prosecutors say they intend to seek a new trial against a German tourist convicted of possessing child pornography because the jury deadlocked on molestation charges. On Tuesday, a jury convicted Michael Roeder, 27, of possession and control of child pornography, but jurors could not return a verdict on whether he committed lewd acts on a child. Prosecutors allege that Roeder molested an 8-year-old girl at Newport Dunes Aquatic Park while traveling the California coast. They said he did not know the girl.

A San Clemente man was sentenced Tuesday to six months in county jail and three years of formal probation based on a plea agreement for exposing himself to eight girls, including two 14-year-old girls walking on a park trail in Newport Beach, court officials said. Paul Charles Dishno, 39, pleaded guilty Sept. 19 to two counts of indecent exposure, two counts of child annoyance and three counts of possession of child pornography, according to the Orange County district attorney's office.

Deepa Bharath Two local men face charges of possessing child pornography after a targeted sweep by federal agents in Orange County last week, officials said. Samuel Lane, 68, of Costa Mesa pleaded guilty to ordering videotapes containing child pornography over the mail, Assistant U.S. Atty. Richard Lee said. An arrest warrant is also out for 56-year-old Richard Darrell Lewis of Newport Beach, who "is believed to be hospitalized," Lee said.

Man suspected of having child porn Newport Beach Police arrested a 61-year-old Santa Ana Heights man Wednesday night on suspicion of possessing about 100,000 images of child pornography in his home, officials said. John Maurice Aldrich was arrested after a criminal complaint was filed yesterday in Federal Court in Santa Ana, according to a news release from the U.S. attorney's office. Possession of child pornography is a federal crime. Prosecutors have charged Aldrich with possessing images depicting minors engaging in sexually explicit conduct.

Innocent children being exploited in pornographic images is disturbing enough without the realization that via the Internet, these sickening images can be spread to millions of viewers with a click of a button. Unfortunately, while we have made great strides and achieved much in the technological arena, our laws on child pornography have not kept pace with the challenges we face in an era of instant information. With regard to child pornography, current law does not address an increasingly popular method of file-sharing called peer-to-peer file transfer.

Deepa Bharath SANTA ANA -- A jury convicted a former Long Beach police officer Tuesday of 11 charges of molesting a 14-year-old boy he met in an Internet chat room and then lured to his Costa Mesa apartment. The jury deliberated for barely two hours before finding Michael McDonald, 61, guilty of three counts of oral copulation, two counts of sodomy and three counts of child abduction. He was also convicted of one count of showing child pornography to a minor with the intent of seducing him, possessing child pornography with the intent of distributing it to young people, and one misdemeanor count of possessing child pornography.

Prosecutors on Friday added a child pornography charge against a Newport Beach pool maintenance man already accused of sexually abusing seven boys over more than a decade. Christopher Bryan McKenzie, 50, has been behind bars since December 2012, when Newport Beach police arrested him on suspicion of molesting two children. Since then, the Orange County district attorney's office has added accusations from other victims, including boys McKenzie allegedly met while he was a child care volunteer at Rock Harbor Church in Costa Mesa.

A Santa Ana man who authorities said tried to meet a 12-year-old girl at South Coast Plaza was one of nearly 200 people arrested in a federal sting operation, authorities said Friday. Theodore Perez, 29, is charged with meeting a minor with the intention of committing a lewd act, distributing lewd material to a minor, and luring of a child with intent to commit a specific crime. Perez was one of 190 people arrested in the operation, dubbed Operation Orion, by Homeland Security and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)

A Newport Beach man's female relative accidentally stumbled upon child pornography on disks she thought were blank, court records allege. But instead of Alex Bassinne's disks being usable, she found two videos on them - one depicting a girl believed to be between 10 and 12 who was performing oral sex - according to a search warrant affidavit. Bassinne, 50, faces up to nine years and four months in state prison for the three felonies of which he stands accused, including possession of child pornography and lewd acts with a child, according to the Orange County district attorney's office.

John Patrick Harison was supposed to be teaching his 4-year-old student the art of self-defense. But the little girl couldn’t protect herself against Harison, her molester. The co-owner of a Costa Mesa self-defense studio, who was an instructor there, was convicted Friday in Newport Beach of molesting the girl at his studio while instructing her in January, authorities said. Harison, 62, of Anaheim, was sentenced to three years in state prison and ordered to register as a sex offender, according to a news release issued late Friday by the Orange County district attorney’s office.
