David Rickey Sport is an upscale men's clothing boutique at Westcliff Court and probably the best designed men's store in town. Every inch of this modern store was a vision of owners David Heil and Rick Lamitie. They chose beautiful South African avodire satin wood, oversized dressing room doors that spin 360 degrees, as well as spinning display units for instant changing looks. A runway cuts through the store for fashion shows. It's easy to find sizes.

Stephanie Hsu, 32, found her calling in the fashion world. But being fashionable doesn’t stop her from recognizing the need to help others. LANIS Boutique in Costa Mesa opened two years ago. The shoes, handbags and accessories sold there feature some of the best names in business. What does LANIS mean and how did you come up with that name? I pondered on a name for the store for a long time. I wanted it to be something that was meaningful for me. My sister, who passed away pretty much right after my birth was Lanelle, and I was born in Paris.

Mauve is just the answer for hipsters looking for underrepresented or undiscovered brands in a wide range of prices. The Newport Beach boutique is casual and unpretentious. Mauve's been compared with the Closet, another great trendsetting store for men and women. Owner Joshua Ritchie seeks out niche brands and limits quantities to keep apparel fresh. It's a great place to find upscale casual and premium street wear for men. Hot sellers include Stussy for men, Rogue Status, Mighty Healthy, Atwater and Obey.

Local fashionistas who don't want to look like everyone else on the block appreciate Kitaen's well-thought-out merchandising.

COSTA MESA — When he operated the Closet boutique out of a small space at Triangle Square, Vice President Lane Saunders sometimes felt like he worked in a closet. That will change soon. The clothing store, which specializes in sportswear and high-end fashion for young adults, moved out of its old home earlier this year and is scheduled to reopen across the street this month — in a location approximately five times the size of its previous digs. “When we saw this venue opening, we thought it was the perfect space,” Saunders said Wednesday in the office behind the Closet’s new home at Newport Boulevard and 18th Street.

Situated around the Goat Boutique on the Westside are a number of white plaster statues of goats — one of them sporting a line of tank tops draped over its back. They’re a delightful part of the store, but owner Christina Smith didn’t have the animal in mind when she coined the name of her business. “Goat is an acronym for ‘greatest of all things,’” she said. “We sort of adopted that as our mantra.” Now, Smith is aiming to expand that mantra to new ears.

Skye Montgomery is the newest apparel boutique to open in Corona del Mar. Co-owners Christina Armijo (original owner of Pink Leopard, also in Corona del Mar) and Susan Nevell created a chic new spot for men and women to shop. And in celebration of their grand opening, they’re offering a 10% discount on all merchandise. The color theme inside the boutique — black, shades of gray and white with a splash of yellow — are carried through with the selection of apparel.
