Corona del Mar, which continued its Pacific Coast League dominance this fall, earning its second league crown since joining the circuit, have eight players on the coaches' all-league selections. Seniors Garrett Bowlus and Chriss Street, as well as junior Michael March and sophomore Artie Dorr, are first-team honorees from the Sea Kings, who also successfully defended their CIF Southern Section Division II title. Senior Chase Emery, juniors Bobby Messenger and Sherwin Kim, as well as sophomore Beau Stockstill, represent CdM on the second team.

CORONA DEL MAR - Capistrano Valley became the latest victim in the wake of Corona del Mar High's surge in boys water polo as the No. 1-ranked Sea Kings (CIF Division I, as well as Orange County) trampled the visiting Cougars in nonleague play Saturday, to the tune of 17-7. The Sea Kings got seven goals from Garrett Bowlus and another five from Artie Dorr, as they took a commanding 9-5 halftime lead, then exploded for a 5-1 third quarter. Michael March had two goals and Bobby Messenger, Marcello Pantuliano and Chriss Street each scored in the runaway.

Steve Virgen NEWPORT BEACH - Corona del Mar High opened its season with two victories over Long Beach Poly and Servite in the South Coast boys water polo tournament. CdM's Garrett Bowlus scored four goals in each game. The host Sea Kings started with a 12-2 win over Long Beach Poly. Michael March and Artie Dorr punched in three apiece. Bobby Messenger and Chriss Street scored one goal apiece. Goalie Sherwin Kim recorded six saves. March scored CdM's first goal at the 4:39 mark of the first quarter.

TUSTIN - Newport Harbor and Corona del Mar High boys water polo forces, enjoying a high ride during summer competition, collided at Tustin High in summer league play Wednesday and it was Harbor taking an 11-9 decision. Ryan Cook and Peter Belden were the key figures for Newport Harbor, Cook netting five goals and Belden three goals, as well as four steals. Also scoring for Newport with single tallies were Greg Worthing, Caine Littrell and Brian Pentz.

CORONA DEL MAR - The Corona del Mar High boys swim team heads into Pacific Coast League competition with the right frame of mind following Wednesday's 98-70 nonleague win over visiting El Toro. Sherwin Kim was a double winner for the Sea Kings (1-1). He won the 200-yard freestyle with a 1:49.79 and took first in the 100 freestyle with a 48.89. CdM swept the 200 free with Kim, Jimmy Strack (1:58.33) and Michael March (1:58.90). Kim teamed up with Marcello Pantuliano, Chriss Street and Garrett Bowlus to win the 200 medley relay (1:46.

Corona del Mar High's girls distinguished themselves with strong efforts in every direction, leaving their coach, Doug Volding, in a happy mood as the Sea Kings closed out their swimming competition at the CIF Division II Finals at Belmont Shores Saturday. "I'm really proud of them," said Volding. "They were workhorses." Freshman Jordan Anae, sophomore Kim McKay and junior Brittany Bowlus formed the 1-2-3 punch which led to an eighth-place team finish behind champion Riverside Poly.

CORONA DEL MAR - With speed and constant defensive pressure, the Corona del Mar High boys water polo team remained undefeated in the Pacific Coast League as the host Sea Kings shut down Estancia, 20-2 Wednesday. Though CdM easily won, the Eagles actually tied the game 1-1 two minutes into the game. Estancia's Phil Westfall scored, but that was all the Eagles had until Westfall scored again in the final quarter. Chriss Street, Garrett Bowlus and John Mann scored four goals each for CdM. "We didn't come out that strong," Mann said.

Corona del Mar High's Sea Kings, however, were engaged in a quarterfinal matchup with a respected program, Santa Margarita, yet from the start, blowout was the operative word. Tony Altobelli BELMONT SHORE - Corona del Mar High boys swimming standout Sherwin Kim went up against the best of the best at Saturday's CIF Southern Section Division II finals. The junior, who was the Sea Kings' only individual finalist on the boys side, posted a personal-best time in the 100-yard freestyle finals and placed eighth with a 48.59. Kim posted a 2:00.64 in the 200 individual medley finals, but was disqualified during the butterfly portion for separating his feet, according to CdM Coach Tim Chaix.
