At 7-7, the UC Irvine men's basketball team is breaking even. It took overtime, of course, to produce the Anteaters' seventh victory of the season on Saturday, and "even" may be the theme in the Big West Conference, which tipped off with five games Saturday. Four games among Big West rivals were decided by 10 or fewer points on Saturday, with the lone exception being UCI's 68-57 overtime conquest of visiting UC Davis, which managed just one field goal in the final 10:33 of action, including a scoreless overtime session.

LOS ANGELES - In the four-month marathon that is the college baseball regular season, there are stretches that can shape a team's psyche, for good or bad. UC Irvine continued one such good stretch on Tuesday by extending its winning streak to four games with a 6-2 triumph at USC. It was the first win on Tuesday in more than a month for the Anteaters, who soundly handled a USC squad that had won nine straight, including Pac-12 sweeps of the...

With the UC Irvine baseball team this season, Moore has meant less for opposing hitters. Anteaters junior closer Sam Moore nailed down his nation-leading 15th save Saturday to help UCI claim a 5-4 Big West Conference victory over visiting Cal State Northridge. It was the fourth consecutive conference game that Moore has saved for UCI and the 6-foot-1, 200-pound right-hander has not blown a save opportunity this season. Moore got the final five outs Saturday, the 10th time he has pitched more than one inning to collect a save, and continues to defy the odds, as well as hitters, by collecting outs without big-time velocity.

A baseball adage as old as wool uniforms states that the breaks of the game, the highs and lows, the hot and cold stretches, all even out over the course of a season. UC Irvine junior first baseman Connor Spencer can, thank goodness, finally attest to just that. After beginning the season hitless in his first 19 at-bats, the 2013 Big West Conference batting champion has righted himself. He is 11 for 16 over his last four games, including a two-for-four performance Saturday to lead the Anteaters to a 4-2 win over visiting UC Riverside.

The dream is nearing reality for the UC Irvine men's basketball team, just the way the Anteaters have learned to envision their season - one game at a time. First place in the Big West Conference was up for grabs by the time the UC Irvine men's basketball team took the court on Saturday. Coach Russell Turner knew UC Santa Barbara, the team with which the Anteaters went into the day tied for first place, lost a tough one at home to Cal State Northridge in the waning seconds of overtime. He made sure to keep the result from his Anteaters prior to them playing host to UC Riverside. "I didn't want their minds on anything other than competing … and our game plan," Turner said.
