IRVING, Texas — The Orange County Breakers bounced back from a Wednesday loss and beat the Texas Wild, 25-15, to improve to 2-2 in Mylan World Tennis Team action Thursday night. The Wild was fresh off its 23-18 win over Washington, which ended the Kastles' record winning streak at 34. The Breakers avenged its 20-18 loss to the Wild from Monday at the Bren Events Center. Orange County reeled off wins in each of the sets. Treat Huey and Steve Johnson won in men's doubles.

Andy Roddick is coming to play against the Orange County Breakers July 13 at the Bren Events Center on the UC Irvine campus. The marquee event featuring the former world No. 1-ranked player is among the dates on the Breakers' schedule that was released Wednesday. The Breakers open the 38th season of Mylan World Team Tennis presented by GEICO on July 7 with a home matchup at the Bren Events Center against the Philadelphia Freedoms. Roddick, who will play for the Springfield Lasers, was the top pick in the Mylan WTT Marquee Draft and returns to competitive tennis with Mylan WTT this summer for the first time since his final professional match at the 2012 U.S. Open.

Former Corona del Mar High boys tennis standout Taylor Dent, 21, captured his second title on the Association of Tennis Professionals Tour when he defeated Andy Roddick, 6-1, 6-4, in the championship Sunday of the Kroger St. Jude Tournament in Memphis, Tenn. Dent, who won the Hall of Fame Invitational last year at Newport, R.I., overpowered Roddick with his serve-and-volley game, which has improved since Dent made a few adjustments on his big serve to alleviate back pain.

Tennis legend Tracy Austin has committed to join a star-studded lineup that includes Andre Agassi, Andy Roddick and Anna Kournikova for the 12th annual World Team Tennis All-Star Smash Hits, scheduled Oct. 11 at 7 p.m. at UC Irvine's Bren Center. Austin has won 30 career singles titles including two U. S. Open crowns. At age 16, she became the youngest player to win the U.S. Open in 1979. Two years later, she captured her second U.S. Open championship with a memorable win over Martina Navratilova.

Andy Roddick, a former No. 1-ranked player in the world, and twin brothers Bob and Mike Bryan, the world's No. 1 doubles team, will be making appearances during the Orange County Breakers' World Team Tennis season at the UC Irvine Bren Events Center in July. Roddick will play for the Springfield Lasers, who selected Roddick as the No. 1 pick in the World Team Tennis Draft on Tuesday. Roddick will be playing in his seventh World Team Tennis season, his first in three years. His last professional match was at the 2012 US Open.

NEWPORT BEACH — A.G. Longoria, the tennis coach of the boys' and girls' teams at Sage Hill School, won't have much of a summer vacation this week. That's because the coach will be directing a new national tournament at the Balboa Bay Club Racquet Club. There will be five national regional qualifiers, along with three Southern California teams, competing in the X Team Tennis National High School Tournament, that starts today and runs through Sunday at the BBCRC. Local teams are invited to compete in the qualifying tournament to fill three spots in the national draw.

IRVINE — The evening began with some playful prematch trash talking. The friendly banter continued onto the court in various forms with the crowd joining in on the fun. But when the third and final competition began Thursday and the two tennis heavyweights took the court, the crowd grew quiet and the once-lighthearted Pete Sampras and Andy Roddick became intense. It was the former king of U.S. tennis in Sampras against the reigning American superstar of the sport. With nothing but pride on the line, Sampras won, 5-3, 5-3 in the World Team Tennis scoring format.

IRVINE - Andy Roddick brought in by far the biggest home crowd of the season so far for the Orange County Breakers on Saturday night. Roddick, the former World No. 1 who retired from the pro tour last September, was playing his sixth Mylan World Team Tennis match in six nights. It seemed like a lot for Roddick. He said in a prematch press conference that he hadn't hit the ball too much in the last few months. "I work out all the time," Roddick said. "I just haven't been hitting tennis balls.
