Meeting to discuss coexisting with coyotes

March 17, 2014

The Costa Mesa Police Department plans to host an informational session on urban coyotes Wednesday.

The session begins at 7 p.m. in City Council chambers at City Hall, 77 Fair Drive.

Lt. Kent Smirl of the California Department of Fish and Wildlife will speak.

Discussion topics include how to keep household pets safe from coyotes, how to make homes less attractive to coyotes and how to respond when seeing the wild animals.

Costa Mesa and Newport Beach residents have reported a number of coyote incidents in recent years. Christy Roget of Costa Mesa started an awareness campaign, the Lucky Project, after her dog was killed by a coyote.
