High School Football: Sage Hill ends slump

Lightning dominates Fairmont Prep in home opener to win first game since 2011 Friday night.

The slump is over.

Sage Hill School's football team ended a 13-game losing streak that dated back to 2011 with a 38-7 victory over Fairmont Prep in the Lightning's home opener Friday night at Ramer Field.

Sage Hill (1-1) ended its worst stretch in the program's history with an overpowering win.

Quarterback CJ McCord threw for 180 yards and two touchdown passes on 14-of-20 passing for the Lightning.

Beau Roth ran for 87 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries, while Alfonso Corona added 69 yards and one TD on the ground for Sage Hill.

Will Burns (five receptions, 59 yards, one touchdown), Vince Wetmore (three receptions, 48 yards, one TD), Logan Hamilton (three receptions, 37 yards) and Sam Massarik (three receptions, 36 yards) contributed on offense.

Burns (eight tackles, six solo), Corona (four tackles, one solo) and Wetmore (four tackles) were leaders on defense.

Fairmont Prep dropped to 0-1 after losing its season opener.

Sage Hill led 31-0 at halftime and in the end the Lightning players celebrated with a team victory dance.
