60th party committee delays review

August 06, 2013

Thursday's committee meeting for Costa Mesa's 60th anniversary celebration has been canceled, city officials said Monday.

Not enough discussion topics were ready in time for the meeting, said the city's special events coordinator, Christine Cordon, who serves as the committee's secretary.

The official tally of finances related to the June 28 to 30 celebration haven't been finalized, and that few committee members submitted a requested post-event survey.

The survey was meant to be an analysis focusing on the celebration’s “SWOT,” or strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats, she said.

The next committee meeting will likely take place within the month, Cordon said.

Attendees of the July 11 committee meeting — the first after Costa Mesa's three-day celebration — expressed various frustrations about the party, including alleged mistreatment of volunteers. Few specifics were offered.

Others touted the bash as "a miracle" that got accomplished with only about six months of planning.
