Police heard another gunshot in the 500 block of Victoria and spotted St. Sauver trying to leave through a bedroom window, authorities said.
Police determined St. Sauver lived at the home and accidentally fired the small handgun.
St. Sauver was booked into Orange County Jail on suspicion of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, attempted robbery and a parole violation, police said.
Residents on Miner were surprised to learn that someone was shot in their neighborhood.
David Patterson has lived on Miner for about a year, and said the cul de sac generally keeps out anyone who doesn't live on the street.
"In Costa Mesa it's kind of rare," he said, "especially in this area."
Rita Herrera lives at the end of Miner where the street meets Victoria. Although she didn't hear anything Monday morning, she said people passing through a walkway at the end of the cul de sac often create a lot of noise.
Police are continuing their investigation into whether St. Sauver was involved in similar robberies in Costa Mesa or in surrounding areas. Anyone with information about Monday's shooting or a similar incident is asked to call Det. Rob Hanson at (714) 754-5162 or Sgt. Ed Everett at (714) 754-5395.
