12 Newport-Mesa players earn All-CIF football honors

CdM quarterback Carter, Offensive Player of the Year, among the dozen who come away with postseason recognition.

Corona del Mar High senior quarterback Cayman Carter earned the All-CIF Southern Section Southern Division Offensive Player of the Year award, highlighting one of a dozen Newport-Mesa football players making All-CIF in their respective divisions.

Carter led CdM to its second straight CIF Southern Section Southern Division title and a Pacific Coast League title.

Other CdM players making the Southern Division team include junior middle linebacker Alex Moore, senior defensive end Tim Reinhardt, senior kicker Griff Amies, senior wide receiver Troy Reese, junior center Giovanni Gentosi, senior cornerback Ryan Griffin and junior punter Luke Napolitano.

CdM Coach Scott Meyer was named the Southern Division Coach of the Year for the second straight year. He led the Sea Kings (12-2, 5-0 in league) to back-to-back Southern Division championships and their first undefeated league championship in the program's history.

Also, earning Southern Division accolades are Estancia senior running back Robert Murtha and senior safety DeionTe Haywood.


Newport Harbor senior tailback Talalelei Teaupa and junior left tackle Ramsey Hufford made the Southwest Division team.

Carter, in his first year as a starter, passed for 2,210 yards and 17 touchdowns, with only six interceptions, and rushed for 1,073 yards and 15 touchdowns. He completed 167 of 290 passes, setting a CdM single-season completion record.

Carter also was the Daily Pilot Newport-Mesa Dream Team Player of the Year and the All-Pacific Coast League MVP.

Moore anchored CdM's defense, which shut out its first three playoff opponents. He led the area with 143 tackles to go with one sack, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.

Moore, who shared the All-Pacific Coast League Defensive MVP award, intercepted a pass in the Sea Kings' 35-10 win against Garden Grove in the Southern Division title game and returned it 30 yards for a touchdown.

Moore also received Dream Team and third-team All-Orange County accolades.

Reinhardt, a two-time All-CIF selection, finished with nine sacks, 47 tackles, one safety and one forced fumble. He earned second-team All-Orange County and first-team All-Pacific Coast League honors.

Amies converted 22 of 30 field-goal attempts, tying the state single-season record for field goals made. His longest successful field goal was a 52-yarder.
