College Roundup: OCC women's swim team wins state title

Pirates claim third straight title at CCCAA state championships at East L.A. College.

State championships

LOS ANGELES — Freshman Mackenzie Bailie was the lone individual event winner for Orange Coast College, but the Pirates did enough to claim their third straight title at the California Community College Athletic Assn. State Championships completed Saturday at East Los Angeles College.

Bailie won the 50-yard butterfly in 25.28 seconds. She was second in the 50 freestyle (23.89) and was third in the 100 fly (57.64).

OCC's Alyssa Schrader was second in the 100 fly (57.58), third in the 200 IM (2:10.43) and fourth in the 400 individual medley in 59.84.

Megan Barnett was fourth in the 500 free (5:12.84) and Nicole Buck was fifth in the 1,650 free (18:07.56).

Madison Seaberry was fifth in the 1,650 free (18:07.55).

OCC was second in the 200 free relay (1:37.7), second in the 200 medley relay (1:48.02), third in two other relays and fourth in another.

The Pirates totaled 431.5 points, three more than Diablo Valley.

OCC's Anthony Iacopetti was named Women's State Coach of the Year.

UC Irvine 6, San Diego State 2

SAN DIEGO — Senior center fielder Christian Ramirez went four for five with two runs batted in to pace the visiting Anteaters in the nonconference game Tuesday at Tony Gwynn Stadium.

Freshman designated hitter Connor Spencer drove in two runs as UCI had at least hit from all nine starters.

Starter Mark Trentacosta allowed three hits and one run while striking out six in six innings to earn his first win as an Anteater.

UCI (24-17) has now won four straight heading into a three-game Big West Conference series against visiting UC Santa Barbara, beginning Friday at 6:30 p.m.

The Aztecs fell to 20-26.

MEN'S SWIMMING

State championships

LOS ANGELES — Orange Coast College freshman Michael Kim won the 400 individual medley and was third in the 200 backstroke and the 200 butterfly to pace the Pirates to a third-place showing in the team standings at the California Community College Athletic Assn. State Championships completed Saturday at East Los Angeles College.

Kim topped the field in the 400 IM in 4 minutes, 02.86 seconds. He went 1:51.96 in the 200 back and 1:52.92 in the 200 fly.

OCC's Avelino Enriquez finished second in the 200 back (1:50.67), was third in the 200 IM (1:54.63), and was fifth in the 100 back (51.23).

Ashkaun Hami finished second in the 100 fly (49.73).

The Pirates were second in the 400 medley relay and third in the 200 medley relay on their way to 283 points.

Santa Rosa had 602 and Palomar posted 408.
