COSTA MESA — Boog Powell was two for three with a pair of runs batted in as the Pirates clinched at least a share of the Orange Empire Conference title Thursday at OCC.

Trent Woodward, Justin Broussard and Austin Wobrock also had two hits for the Pirates (29-3-1, 16-2 in conference). Woodward scored two runs.

Brandon Brennan improved to 8-1 for OCC, allowing one run on three hits in six innings. He walked two and struck out six.

Left fielder Chris Carlson injured his right foot during the game and his status is unknown for OCC, which plays at Riverside on Friday.

Doubleheader

COSTA MESA — Vanguard split the Golden State Athletic Conference doubleheader, dropping the first game to San Diego Christian, 5-4, before coming back for a 14-5 victory in the nightcap.

Adonis Tountas hit two home runs and a double for the Lions in the second game, finishing three for four with four runs batted in. Bryce Arroyo was two for three with a pair of RBIs, and J.T. Truhett and Eric Sanchez each had a base hit and three RBIs.

Tucker Woods earned the win in relief for Vanguard, improving to 2-2.

Vanguard is now 19-18, 9-16 in conference. The Lions play a doubleheader at San Diego Christian on Saturday.

MEN'S TENNIS

Vanguard 9, Hope International 0

FULLERTON — The Lions did not drop a set in the Golden State Athletic Conference match Thursday at Cal State Fullerton.

Lucas Pereira, Yahor Kryvaruchka, Roger Muri, Lukas Larsson, Radek Rosiak and Lukas Tandy all won singles sets for No. 9 Vanguard (13-9, 7-5 in conference).

The doubles teams of Muri and Kryvaruchka, Pereira and Rosiak, as well as Wagner and Larsson, also earned victories.

WOMEN'S TENNIS

Vanguard 9, Hope International 0

FULLERTON — Vanguard was dominant, not dropping a set in the Golden State Athletic Conference match Thursday.

Gabriella Bergmanova, Nina Pudar, Ekaterina Gabashvili, Gabriele Alford and Petronella Lindahl all earned singles victories. The doubles teams of Bergmanova and Pudar, as well as Alford and Ashley Tebeau, also won doubles sets. The Lions also earned one singles win and one doubles win via default.

No. 15 Vanguard improved to 9-12, 8-6 in conference.
