LA MIRADA — Vanguard University right fielder Haley Croce drove in three runs in a 5-4 Game 2 victory over Biola and had two RBIs in a 3-2 opening-game triumph in Golden State Athletic Conference action on Saturday.

Brittany Boggs was four for six in the two games, which allowed Vanguard to improve to 27-16, 5-5 in conference).

Stacie Salazar struck out nine, while allowing 10 hits and two runs in a complete game to win the opener. She is now 8-4.

Rachel Stalford struck out seven, while allowing 13 hits and four runs in a complete-game effort in Game 1. She is 11-4.


Biola is now 15-21, 1-9.

Cal State Northridge 2

IRVINE — The host Anteaters won five of six singles sets to claim the Big West Conference match on Sunday.

Kristina Smith, Courtney Byron, Franziska Goettsching and Kat Facey won at Nos. 1-4 singles, while Marivick Mamiit won her No. 6 singles match for UCI (12-5, 4-1 in conference).

Northridge is 9-6, 2-3.


Denver 5, UC Irvine 2

IRVINE — Sam Gould earned the lone singles win for the host Anteaters, who won two of three sets to earn the doubles point in the nonconference match Sunday.

Gould posted a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles.

Mika DeCoster and Jon Kazarian won, 8-4, at No. 2 doubles, while Fabian Matthews and Shuhei Shibahara posted an 8-6 win at No. 3 doubles for UCI (2-15).

Denver is 12-8.


Orange Empire

Conference match

RIVERSIDE — Mike Squillace shot six-over-par 78 to pace Orange Coast College, which beat three of seven opponents in the eight-team match on Monday at the Victoria Club.

OCC's team score was 402. It remains atop the conference at 37-5.
