Winter All-League Teams: Trio on first team

Costa Mesa High senior Nancy Aguilar and junior Molly Settles, as well as Estancia sophomore Celia Duran, were the three local players who earned first-team honors in the Orange Coast League for girls' basketball.

Aguilar averaged a team-best 11.5 points per game, as well as a co-team best three steals per contest for the Mustangs. She scored in double digits in every league game but one for Mesa (13-14, 7-3 in league), helping the Mustangs finish second in league for the second straight year and advance to the CIF Southern Section Division 4AA playoffs. In league, she averaged 16.2 points per game.

Settles, a forward, averaged 9.5 points and 6.3 rebounds per game for the Mustangs.

Duran, a point guard, averaged a team-best 15.8 points per game for Estancia. She made 45 three-pointers for the Eagles (14-13, 6-4 in league), who finished third in league and advanced to the Division 3A playoffs.

Costa Mesa senior Marlene Castro and junior Rachel Witter, as well as Estancia junior Gianna Jason, all earned second-team all-league status.

Senior Kikey Ramos of league champion Godinez earned league MVP honors.

Soleimany honored

Sage Hill School senior Ava Soleimany has been named first team All-Academy League for girls' basketball.

It is the third straight year that Soleimany, a point guard, is on the first team. She averaged a team-best 15.3 points and five assists per game for the Lightning. Sage, which finished 5-15, 4-6 in league, was fourth place in the six-team league.

Sage juniors Maggie Danner and Shelby Bolen were second-team all-league selections. Freshman Claire Goul was an honorable mention.

Rachel Nagel of Whitney was Academy League MVP.

Thompson stars

Newport Harbor High senior Kasey Thompson earned first-team all-Sunset League honors for the second straight year in girls' basketball.

Thompson averaged team-bests of 13.9 points, 10 rebounds and 3.4 blocks per game for Newport Harbor (7-19, 0-10 in league). The 6-foot-2 center, who is headed to Hawaii Pacific for volleyball, was second in Orange County in rebounding, and first in blocked shots.

Huntington Beach senior Kelsey Minato and Edison freshman Mary Lou Samuelson were co-MVPs of the league.

Corona del Mar High senior Karléh Wilson has earned second-team all-Pacific Coast League status for girls' basketball.
