Volunteers needed to screen for new schools chief

The Newport-Mesa Unified School District is looking for parents and community members interested in helping select the next superintendent.

The district is looking for 10 volunteers to serve on the 2012 Superintendent Selection Community Interview Group alongside 21 other stakeholders. They will interview the top candidates selected by the school board.

Volunteers must be able to attend an organizational meeting with interim Supt. Rob Barbot at 6:30 p.m. May 16 and the candidate interviews all day June 8. Selected participants are also encouraged to attend the different community input meetings.

The board is seeking one elementary and one secondary school parent from each of the four high school zones: Estancia, Costa Mesa, Newport Harbor and Corona del Mar. Parents must have a student enrolled in the district to apply.

The board is also looking for one resident each from Newport Beach and Costa Mesa who doesn't have children enrolled in the district.

Applications are due by 4:30 p.m. Monday. They are available at http://www.nmusd.us.
