Suspect sought in Saturday stabbing

March 06, 2012

Costa Mesa police are searching for a suspect who stabbed a man in the neck in a weekend fight.

The 20-year-old victim walked to a Pizza Hut seeking medical assistance in the 2700 block of Harbor Boulevard about 11:55 p.m. Saturday. Costa Mesa paramedics took him to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana, and he was later released, according to the Costa Mesa Police Department.

The man was involved in a fight over a comment made to a woman near an apartment complex's pool area in the 2700 block of Peterson Place earlier that evening, and was also in another fight at Adams Avenue and Peterson Place, which left him with three stab wounds, according to police.

A friend of the victim was initially arrested in connection with the stabbing but was later released and is not believed to be a suspect, police said.

The victim is affiliated with a Santa Ana gang, although it was unclear whether the fight was gang-related, police said.

Police are searching for a Latino between 17 and 20 years old, with a light complexion, about 6 feet tall, 150 pounds and wearing a gray flannel shirt and dark pants.

Anyone with information about the stabbing is asked to call Costa Mesa Police Department Gang investigators David Sevilla at (714) 754-5057 or Jimmy Brown at (714) 754-4908.
